Drinking Glasses

Oh No!  Now There's Another New Danger!  Recently I did a blog on an article in our local newspaper on the possible danger of lead in the bags we purchase to carry our groceries, etc home in to prevent the danger of the landfills filling up with the controversial plastic bags.

Now the paper had an article on the lead dangers in drinking glasses with pictures, etc etched on them!  The Associated Press commissioned laboratory testing to come up with this.  The article is a fairly long dissertation on the subject.  The testing done on glasses with depictions of Superman, Wonder Woman and the Tin Man showed lead exceeding Federal levels up to 1,000 times.  The report goes on to say that the same glasses also had relatively higher levels of cadmium which is supposedly even more dangerous.

We appear to be living to much older ages which seems to be in direct conflict with all these danger findings which seem to make one wonder how anyone reaches a ripe old age!  It could seem that the dangers of all this stress from worrying about lifes dangers would be doing us in!  I think I'll choose to not read anymore of these articles as I'm reconciled to the fact that simply living is dangerous.

Sue, I am afraid the danger is not that you die young, but that you become more stupid with age.

I think more stupid that we should have been at that age. i guess I am the living proof (LOL)

And where did I get all the lead and cadmium? I do not use those glasses...

Just further reminder why jobs shouldn't be outsourced to other countries... Who uses lead based paint anymore seriously... Maybe a country that is sloowwwlly trying to kill us!!! Okay I am coming off a little paranoid, but I hold a valid point!!

My Grandma lived to be 92 years of age.  Uncle Tom, age 97.  Uncle Lanier, 96.  Uncle Reuben, 97.

Great Aunt Mary will be age 101 in December.   Her little sister (my Great Aunt Dores, who is only 93), will be there to help Celebrate.  So will other relatives that are way into their 80's.

Tell Mainstream Media, the Left, the Federal Bureaucrats, and other Fear-Mongers,  that my family does not listen to Chicken Little.

Good Morning Robin & Sue. I rarely drink from painted cups and mugs. My concern is consuming lead and other metals that have leached into our drinking water...

Makes me wonder sometimes how I managed to survive childhood in the 60's before the government warned us how dangerous living was.

Jon -- thanks for stopping by and there may be some truth to what you say!

Stacy -- The outsourcing and loss of industry and jobs in this great country that used to make everything is a mystery to me how it all came about!  Thanks for commenting.

Fred -- my aunt died on her 91st birthday, my mom died at 92 and my step father is 96 and my uncle in his high 80's.  With all my past bad habits I hope I have some of their good genes!  Your family is very impressive!!  Have a great Thanksgiving Celebration.

Rebecca -- If we listened to all this "stuff" there'd be no point in getting out of bed in the morning!

Michael -- I don't blame you on the hand painted pottery type glasses/dishes, etc but geeze, on the outside of the glasses leaching totally through the glass I question.  I appreciate your comment.

Jim --  isn't it the truth!  I can remember in the summer after getting chores done we'd be out and gone until supper time -- and survived!  Times sure have changed.

Laura --  and you made it out of the superfund clean up sites!  Way to go.

Sheila --  Ah, be brave and jump in so you can at least laugh at a lot of the stuff.  I feel sorry for the folks who try to do right and than later read about how "they" were wrong and actually what they told you not to eat is really good for you!  Moderation, moderation.

Wishing all a very grateful Thanksgiving.  There really is so much to be thankful for.

Hi Robin & Sue!  Like Michael I'm more worried about the drinking water but, good grief, is everything in our lives a hazard?  UGH!  Thanks for the tip--I'll be sure to stay away from any glasses with writing.  Period!

Hi Debe -- yes, I have always enjoyed my etched glasses now I find I won't use them.  I just may as well throw them out.  Thanks for stopping by.
