Recognizing Active Rain trailblazers from the early days -

The early days....

I have been a member of Active Rain since January 29, 2007. Sure seemed to be a bit different back then huh? Nobody was concerned with points or status. It was a small handful of professionals with passion and energy, doing what they love to do and talking about it the whole way. It was about spreading high quality information rather than self promotion. It was about forming bonds with other high quality professionals and knowing they would be there for you, ears wide open and ready to help. Although it has only been three years or so since I first started socially engaging with AR, reflecting back to 2007, I clearly see that many of the early Active Rainers are not now AR legends, but they are blogging trailblazers.

If you are an AR veteran, click on your comments in the left side bar. I find myself shaking my head as i pull up posts from 2007, at just how naive we all were regarding social networking and just how much the group below laid the foundation of social networking basics. It's always fun to read old posts regarding the future and see what Active Rain member really had their finger on the pulse. Is there a list of all time best posts on AR?

Looking over the profiles of my associates, I chuckle as it becomes more obvious some of these early pioneers of Active Rain, experts themselves in their chosen profession, are now viewed as a top tier social networker first, then their chosen profession next. They have branded themselves successfully. I wish everyone of my friends success in building their own personal brand. But mostly, the ones that are still actively or even occasionally contributing, I want to extend a hearty congratulations for staying the course. This group I am talking about are survivors and adapted to a horrible economy in a business that thrives in the good times and sinks in the bad.

Here are a few associates of mine from the early days. I apologize if i have left anyone out. This is just my way to pay homage and give recognition to my early Active Rain influencers. These names are in no particular order. As I see them in my associate list I am adding them below.  Love them or not, they all deserve to be recognized. Thank you all for allowing me to contribute along the way  -

Great list, I second Jeff's suggestions and I would also suggest Ines, Paul Chaney and Marianna Wagner. They may not contribute here regularly anymore but definitely early members that helped shape AR.

Wow Lew, it's been a while since I have seen you here!  I am glad you included yourself.  I find it a great honor when people tell me that I was the first blog they subscribed to - now I get to tell you I believe you were one of the first (if not the first) blog I subscribed to when subscribtions came out!

When I got here (just 4 years ago + a couple of days) I was first attracted to the blogs of Broker Bryant and TLW.

On March 10, 2007 I wrote a post milestone for my 100th post - 100 most influential on AR

Hi Lewis:  A great list of Rock Stars, for sure!  I agree with Jeff's additions as well.  We've learned so very much from these 'pioneers' and no, who ever thought of 'SEO' or social media when we first started here?!  So many changes it's difficult to keep the pace!

Steve - I remember Paul Chaney.

Very cool Renee... Isn't it a trip to go back and read all the predictions from just a few years back. Your post and all the comments is truly a blast from the past. Thank you so much for sharing it.

Debe - it's not just that they are rock stars, they are all great people willing to help. The early days of Active Rain was all about sharing the love... which is really what social media is all about.

I could add dozens to this list from my 4+ years here. The difficulty is that it's all subjective and someone will always be left off.

I joined on November 26, 2010, it will be three years in a few days,  It's been a lot of fun and hunbling to know where I could be points wise if I had applied myself.  Wow!  I've had fun though and it's been a learning experience.

As I update the list above, (and add hyperlinks to their profiles of course!), I am at amazed the number of talented people I have not engaged with over the years. I guess ActiveRain was bigger than I thought in the early days. May the google juice spread over all of you. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone...

Paul - We have been posting on each others blogs back and forth for quite a while now. Glad to have met you.

Lanre - Great meeting you as well. I have always enjoyed your posts. Always quality information. Are you going to Philly RainCamp?

John - 800,000 points wow! That's up there in Lenn Harley land.

Christine - 600,000 points wow! I gotta go back and read more of your stuff.

Debra - I found myself putting posting on AR to the back burner the past few months. So I decided to check out some old posts and comments. It's funny, if you search someone who has been on AR for a while, posts from 2007 come up in the search. ActiveRain is very sticky.

If you have not read Renee Burrows post yet -  I wrote a post milestone for my 100th post - 100 most influential on AR - I suggest you do. Now that is really how you do a tribute!

Alot of great talent listed there. Some I miss their steady contributions or have moved on to other fields.  Congrats to all with their 'body of work' they have left behind for all of us to learn from.

Lewis - Here we are, practically nighbors, and I never met you 'til Activerain... and we're still only cyberpals.  'Gotta change that in 2011.  How 'bout Bob Carney - He was one of the first people I met on Activerain that I could call and say, "Hey Bob, can you tell me how to do this?" and he always took the time to be gracious and help.  He hasn't been around here much, in a while, but he'll always be special to me.  Karen George, who lost her firght with breast cancer in August 2008, was the first SEO mentor that many of us ever met - I still look to her old posts, at times.

Thanks for doing this, Lewis.  GREAT idea!  And thanks for the mention.

We beg to differ!  We were indeed concerned with points, as was Kristal Kraft as we battled over the "king of the hill" spot now held by Todd Clark!
