EARTH MOTHER MARKET IN FT THOMAS KY I visited this market today for the first time. It has been operational for some time here in town, but while I've been interested in organic and free range foods, I was unaware of it until recently.
The market is inside @ 1045 So Ft Thomas Avenue, next to Sarelli's, where I found a variety of products that interest me. Even with the growing season wrapping up around here there was organically grown produce, canned jams and jellies, a super selection of canned kraut, beet juice drink, free range poultry, beef, and eggs. There breads, local milk, home made candies, and cupcakes.
I'm sure I'm leaving out a lot, but I was quite impressed with the "farmers" at Earth Mother and really look forward to more visits and getting to know them better. All of them were super friendly, more than happy to discuss their farming techniques and products. Most had business cards available, took email addresses for the purpose of ordering ahead or giving one a heads up about what is available.
They were giving away drawing tickets today with purchases. Besides being able to puruse the stock, several farmers offered to take orders by email and arrange delivery. I LOVE the idea of buying local and LOVE the idea of buying not only organic, but where animals are treated better.
This farmers market has operated outside across the street in the summer months. I, for one, would hope they will stay inside for the winter so I can continually see what is available. If not, I'll be staying in touch via email and getting my "real" milk and cage free eggs. I have to say I'm enjoying the pumpkin gelato!
