Thanksgiving, once a year for renters -- thirteen times a year for your landlord

As a nation, we set aside the fourth Thursday in November to recognize and give thanks for our good fortunes.  In varying degrees, we are thankful for our friends and families and their well-being, and we are thankful for our health, both physically and fiscally.  No matter how good or bad the last year has been we are thankful for some degree of peace and prosperity.  All this is part of our one day a year to reflect.

Some folks actually celebrate their thanksgiving more than a dozen times a year.  Landlords celebrate along with all of us on the nationally designated Thanksgiving Day.  They also celebrate on the first day of every month.  That's the day the tenants make the landlord's mortgage payment.  His total debt drops a notch, hist tax deductions increase a notch, and your landlord goes up a notch on the prosperity grid.

I have nothing against landlords, but I just don't understand why so many folks who could help themselves choose instead to help their landlord celebrate his baker's dozen of thanksgivings.  Your landlord won't let you decorate to your taste, dictates your lifestyle, won't let you have a dog.  All he will do is let you help him on his road to continued financial success.

OK, so you want to have your own home, but you are concerned that this isn't quite the right time.  Wake up!  Prices are either near or at their bottom, interest rates are probably as low as they can get, and a chunk of homes are now being bought by investors.  Right, investors are buying like crazy, and it's not because they want to buy high and sell low.

Now is the time to take the first step.  Even if your lease runs to June, now is the time to begin the process of declaring your independence from your landlord.  Now is the time to begin the process of kicking your lifestyle up a notch.  Start with a free, no obligation buyer orientation meeting in my Eagan office.  It takes about an hour, and covers the real estate market, financial concerns, the searching and buying process, risks and rewards of buying foreclosures and short sales, and lots of other stuff.

Call or email me today to arrange to set aside an hour of your time learn how to improve your and your family's lives.
