Tree Cutting and Craft Fair in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

By
Real Estate Agent with United Country Ponderosa Realty, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

Hard to believe it's already that time of year again!  I received the folowing press release for the annual Greening of Red Feather:

FROM: Red Feather Lakes Historical Society

RE: Greening of Red Feather Craft Fair

CONTACT: Pat Clemens 970- 495-0560

Red Feather Lakes Historical Society will hold their annual GREENING OF RED FEATHER CRAFT FAIR on the weekend of December 4 and 5, 2010, from  9 am to 4 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday.

The events all take place in the POA Buildings, Fire Barn and Library in the village of Red Feather Lakes, 23 miles west of Highway 287 on County Road 74E.

I'm adding this: look for the sign to the Village and turn right off of County Rd. 74E drive North to Main Street.  My smart daughter thought she didn't need directions and relied on her GPS one year - she got stuck in the snow on a side street, which greatly reduced her shopping time at the Fair :>)

This HOLIDAY MARKETPLACE will highlight craft booths offering  hand-crafted Christmas items, clothing, paintings, carvings, photography, jewelry and home-baked goodies, Library events and much more.

This is an event for the whole family; pick up those special gifts and decorations at the Greening of Red Feather and cut your own tree during the Forest Service Tree Cut.

~\ end press release

You can CUT YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS TREE  December 4th through the 12th.  Permits are $10.00 and can be purchased during the week at

•·         Canyon Lakes Ranger District office (2150 Centre, Ave., Building E, Fort Collins),

•·         Pawnee National Grassland office (660 "O" Street, Greeley, Colo.),

•·         Boulder Ranger District office (2140 Yarmouth Avenue, Boulder, Colo.)

OR

You can purchase the permit at the cutting area on the weekends (cash only).

To get to the Forest tree cutting area, from U.S. Hwy 287 and County Rd 74E (the Red Feather Lakes Rd.),  go west on County Rd 74E approximately 16 miles to the Boy Scout Rd., turn left and follow the signs to the tree cutting area.

There's not a lot of snow here today, however tire chains or four-wheel drive is required to enter the tree cutting area.

Cutting times are 8:30a.m. to 2:30p.m. and no chainsaws are allowed.

Call the Visitors Center 970-295-6700 for information about tree cutting in the Forest or visit their website.

~

TREES CAN ALSO BE CUT AT BEAVER MEADOWS which is approximately 10 miles further, stay right as County Rd 74E turns into North County Rd. 73C (The old Creedmore Lakes Rd) and travel until you see the Beaver Meadows sign on the left.

Trees are $12 each up to 8 feet and $20 each over 8 feet.
The cutting area is open weekends 9 am to 4 pm and midweek by appointment.

You can reach Beaver Meadows Resort at 970-881-2450.

Call them to find out about their special sleigh ride, hot chocolate and a Christmas Tree deal!

Sweet!

Put the Greening of Red Feather and a fresh Christmas Tree on your Calendar for next weekend!

~

My family is going to the Greening and then we'll have our annual Gingerbread Man Decorating Contest which is always a lot of fun.

Fill your Holidays with Happy Memories.

I LOVE craft fairs!!!!!  I'm always amazed at the creativity of some people.  And, I like to add one more "neat" thing to my holiday decorating every year.  Now, I'm going to have to go on line to search our area - I'm sure there's some, just none I've really beena "regular" at.

I also can't believe it's that time of year again.  I usually wait until the first week into December before I get my tree.  But I'm ready and I think I'm going to get a tree for the office this year too.

Great Localism post, Mary.  What fun to cut your own trees.  But of course where else to find them but Red Feather Lakes.

Hi Mary-Sounds like this greening of Red Feather will be lots of fun. I love craft fairs. I am like you with NO Black Friday shopping but I would have rather done that then have to go thru what I did on Black Friday. Not FUN!!! Story later.

Hi Mary:

Hoping that you had a Happy Thanksgiving!

How different our areas are...I found it interesting that you get a permit to chop down a tree.  Here, you go to a tree farm, chop it down and you buy it.

Mary, Wow, that sounds great, to be able to go and cut down your own Christmas tree.  I love reading posts from other parts of the country as we see the contrasts from one place to another.  Have a special day at the Greening of Red Feather Lakes Craft Fair.  Take lots of pictures for us.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving with your family.

Hi Melissa,  The craft fair would be safer- no hand tools required! :-)

Hi Juli, I hope you find a few to attend, like you, I enjoy seeing the creativity and craftmanship found in many of the booths at the crafts fairs, and especially at The Greening.

Thanks Debra, the ornament photo is not mine, I found it on a free site!

It will be fun, Lou!  Hope you have a great weekend also.

Hi Tammy, since we spend so much time at the office, it's nice to have it decorated too!

Hi Craig, the Greening is always fun, there will be a string of cars with trees strapped to the top in the upcoming weekends, I'm not sure yet if we will be one of them :-)

Hi Jane, it is fun to go out and cut your own tree - those trees smell so good, too!

Sharon, what happened on Black Friday?  This isn't sounding so good- I hope all is well now...I'll be looking for "the rest of the story"

Hi Toula, That is different!  I know there are live tree farms in different parts of CO- but we have easy access to the forest up here! :-)  Thanks Toula, I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving as well.

Hi Sandy,  I will be prepared for photos.  Last year, I took the camera and had no card in it!  I didn't know that I could store photos in the hard drive.  Oh well, now I know.... thanks Sandy, we had a great Thanksgiving, hope you did, too!

Hi Debra,

Of course, I don't remember, but I included a link to Judi Barrett's Thanksgiving post for 3 free photo sites - it was one of them.  I thought this was great information and I'm happy to pass it on from Judi.

Hi Mary- I love the photos on this post! How cute is that little reindeer snowman? And if I had taken the cookie photo, the little gingerbread man would have been missing his head - good thing you took it! LOL

Oops-got sidetracked by your stuck car/snowball fight link, Mary.  Your Greening of RFL is a neat event and you have done a great job letting your clients know about this Mary; there is little chance of anyone getting lost going to the Christmas tree sites with those great directions!

Hi Debi, I replied to your comment several days ago-- I guess that's about the same time AR said "I lost my keys" LOL

Well, I agree with you, I would bite off that gingerbread man's head too, given the chance!  My grandson hangs them on his tree and then begins nibbling when no one is looking first the legs..then the arms.... poor little gingerbread man doesn't have a chance!

The first photo isn't mine Debi, but I did think it was really cute! Thanks!

Hi Bruce, I hope no one will get lost!  Shortly after I posted this, I noticed the signs had blown over in fierce winds- they are upright again and soon all the cars going down the hill will have a tree on top of them. Thanks for following the link!

Hi Sherry,  Contact Pat with the Historical Society- 970-495-0560, it may be too late for this year, but you never know!  Also, this post was for 2010 so the dates are off for 2011, but the Greening is this weekend Dec 3rd and 4th!  Thank you for asking. Happy Holidays Sherry!
