Karen and Squirrel in 2010 Blizzard



Both photos in this montage were taken by my husband during the Blizzard of February 2010. The weather was not typical for a Northern Virginia winter. We are lucky in that we only get inundated about once every 10 years. There was a point where the hole dug by the squirrel to retrieve his/her "stash" was so deep you couldn't see the squirrel. It was a multiple storm winter with us receiving about 57 inches over the period. Believe it or not, my car is behind me and is totally buried.

Oh my gosh, I can't even imagine what that must be like. Do people use snowblowers of their own, or do you/they usually shovel? That sounds to me lik eit must be quite a workout!

I feel your pain and trepidation over what this winter might bring!  We had more than normal winter weather (lots more than normal) here in Western NC and the Hendersonville area.  Nothing like you folks but bad for us.

I'd done a couple of blogs on the storms.  My daughter in Charles Town, WVA sent me pics of your blizzard.  It was awesome.  She works at the Washington Post and couldn't get in.  I know what you mean by the disappearing squirrels -- they were like gophers popping up with a treasure in their mouths.

I love your hubby's comment so we didn't think he was loafing!

Lynda  We live in a town house so shovels work jiust fine, but we don't normally have this much snow

KAren: That sure is a beautiful picture! We usually only get one snow a year here in Fayetteville, but being New Yorkers (me, NYC and my husband, Rochester) we remember those storms well. Hope you only get the pretty ones this year, and maybe one or two that give you a day off!
