The end of Edgar

By
Industry Observer

At the end of Edgar St. in Eastlake Union you will find a community that is all it's own. I'm talking about the floating homes of the Cheshiahud Loop. With Co-Op docks and and plenty of parking (if you own a boat) this is definitely a cool place to live. Several homes in the community have wrap around water level decks and rooftop viewing of Gasworks park, fireworks on the 4th of July, and most of Lake Union.

And who lives here? People that don't like yard work.

How's this for a front yard?

Of course there is the issue of Mallard infestation.

I suppose the local kids could enjoy a nice game of duck, duck, well.... Duck!

As with most neighborhoods in Seattle, some streets are tighter than others.

At the end of Edgar, there is a quaint little community that offers peace and solitude for around 884 bucks a sqaure foot (pricing obtained off of one listing).

I love this post. Thanks for all the great photos too. I lived on a "floating Home" in the best city for it, San Diego, 72 degrees year round! I enjoyed my condo on the water for 6 years, 2 story, 2 fireplaces, spiral staircase, stack washer and drier. A dishwasher would have put it over the top...Too bad San Diego is not really live aboard friendly or I would have never sold it. I keep hoping San Diego will take a look at San Francisco and Seattle and realize that these communities are wonderful for our cities and would be a great addition to our beautiful harbor.

Hi Sam,

We use to live in Sammamish before it was Sammamish and was just part of incorporated King County with a Redmond address.  When we would drive into Seattle or take our boat on Lake Washington and into Lake Union, I would see the house boats there and think how fun it would be to live there.  Of course, the Sleepless in Seattle movie made it look even more fun.  Thanks for the memories!

Sam, that is such a fascinating neighborhood.  Thanks for sharing it - felt like I was on a tour.  I've seen a houseboat neighborhood like that in the mountains of NC, near Bryson City.  Don't remember the name of it - we were on a train ride and rode past it!

Thanks for sharing!

Nice. Have to say I've never inspected in a neighborhood such as this. Guess I'd need my scuba gear.

Sam...saw this area on a TV show that visited the NW.  It was pretty then, but your photos did bring it up close and personal.  For me, give me land, lots of land--Terra-firma--solid-packed earth--earth where i can have a garden if I wish. Water is beautiful to see--from a distance or as in your photos; I get sea sick just hearing the waves something with the inner ear..Could not live on nor visit anyone who lived on a Houseboat--but it seems to be a beautiful place in the sun [wind, rain, & storms] to live for many others.
Have a great week.

Sam ~ thanks for the  tour.  Houseboats are something that just is not seen here in Denver.  I enjoyed your photos and your humor.

Michael - That's too bad, every lake should have some on-water living.

Steve - Thanks, glad to be here

Courtney - I believe I saw one of your listings

Arris - Namaste.

Joetta - That would be cold! Extra precaution in the winter.

Margaret - I wasn't sure how successful this post would be since  it's so simple. Thank you for the compliment.

Bob - Google "floating cars" I would have linked it for you but windows is being a pain!

Judy - I used less than a 1,000 sq ft of my last house. Something like this would be perfect for me.

Lori - I'm sure, Charles Buell, comment #1, has done some inspections and even worked on a few.

Gene - I'm thinking coming home in the dark and having to navigate the docks would be a challenge.

Rory - Thanks Rory! 72 year round? Sounds good to me......

Nicole - Thank you Nicole.

DeeDee - There is a scene in Sleepless when Jonah, the son, has a nightmare that the house is sinking. Not sure if my 8 year old would do the same.....

Melissa - Your welcome, I've always loved this neighborhood so it was only fitting that it was one of my first blogs.

Ron - Not sure how it works, but they do utilize dive inspections on these!

Barb & Sal - It would be nice not to have yard work but there is definitely something to be said for land! Thank you for adding me as an associate. I look forward to out dealings in the future.

Sheila - The price is a little steep, much cheaper on the columbia river in Portland, different economy though.

Dawn - You are the only one that commented on the humor, I wasn't sure about that one, if I made you laugh a little then it was worth it!

Super images! Hey Sam, what's up with server bog time and what can the AR University expect for down the road for less time hanging around the water cooler to get blogs posted, uploaded and off to the rest of our real estate dog and pony? What do you hear?

The last two photos look familiar. I was visiting Seattle this past June for a working vacation with one of the local inspectors (the name is withheld to protect the guilty;)). He took me down to look at the house boats. We kind of waaaander onto the docks. It was strictly a fact finding foray. Very interesting houses.

James - You waaaandered on to the docks? You have more gusto than I.

Dennis & Terri - I have worked in this area for years and I now live here. Not once have I seen the Fremont Troll! Today is the day and a post to come.
