We currently have 6 pets and I've laid many to rest over the years. It's always sad, but I have great memories.

It's so hard to let go of them, even when you know it's time, it's a very hard decision to make. But, as you said, the memories of each one are so wonderful.
I had a very special black cat, which lived to be 19 years old. Sabu was the smartest cat I ever knew. When he died a few years back, I installed a 36" tall stone cat statue in my yard. That cat was one of the best friends I have had.
