Grandson Jack on the beach at Hilton Head seeing the ocean for his first time. He and I were both born in the Midwest, but I didn't get to see the ocean until I was 20 years old. I wonder if it is more special when you wait until you are an adult to see something as magnificent as the ocean. I remember being amazed at its size. I remember how good the wet sand felt between my toes. I think maybe Jack and I were experiencing many of the same feelings seeing the ocean for the first time.
we are in Hilton head this week so the picture the subject and remembering my son gave me a big smile thank you

Pat, seeing the ocean for the first time is so memorable. And so powerful, that I am now glued to this area. I see it every day... it is different every day... It is beautiful...
What a cool picture of your grandson
Probably a lot like the fall color of leaves. I always noticed them but about mid forties I was overwhelmed by their beauty. I haven't seen the ocean since I was in my teens so I should test my theory by checking it out now.
I, too, remember my first time when I was in my 20's. Coming from the midwest (Iowa) and moving to Chicago (Lake Michigan), I thought I'd seen it all. My first ocean view - I sat for hours. Mind you, my 2nd degree sunburn wasn't such a great reminder of the awe I felt. Thanks for the good memory of it.
Pat,
That is a great photo - even without the explaination. Great expression. :)

All Mountain--Lucky you! I miss the ocean and need to plan a trip there for 2011 for sure!!
Jon--I know you love where you live---you mention it occasionally in your posts. It must be magical to see the ocean each and every day!
Randy--Like you, I am really appreciating the leaves the last few years. My family thinks I am just crazy becaue I rant and rave so much. You really should get back to the ocean. There is nothing like an ocean vacation. Nothing as relaxing.
Juli--We have so much in common! I got burned to a crisp too. I just couldn't get enough of the sun and ocean. I had been warned, but I had never in my life had a sun burn, so of course I knew better than everyone else. Learned the hard way!
Steve--I do think the picture says it all, but I miss the ocean so much.....I would love to take my four grandkids and just go!
Pat,
Come on down our way. We have miles of ocean to share - and really good temps right now. :)

That's it Steve--rub it in!! Snowing here the morning. Would love to spend Christmas down your way, but not going to happen this year. Thanks for the feature. I'll have to share that with little Jack. I am sure it will bring a smile to his face!
