I thought I would share a story I read earlier today. This is why I like Livonia. The City officials are pro-active. They are always trying to make the City of Livonia a little better. Livonia is not a run down city by any means. In fact most of Livonia's homes are brick homes. But there are some older homes scattered throughout the city.
Livonia city officials took the step to apply for government revitalization funds that were available to them. The City got $1.14 million in revitalization funds. They took the funds and are using the funds to rehabilitate some Livonia homes that fell into dis-repair. These funds are governed by rules the federal government attaches to the funds.
Here is the headline that grabbed my attention. "Livonia rehabs house for $114,000, sells it for $57,000". Yes you read that right. The city of Livonia bought the house for $32,000 and then spent $57,300 for improvements to the structure's interior. The City made the house almost brand new with all the work they did to it. They ended up spending $114,000 to make all the improvements.
But because of the federal government rules the city could not sell the house for more than what it appraised for. It appraised for $57,000 so the city had to sell it for that price. Sure they over spent on the home but the city basically put an almost brand new home back into the city.
So three cheers for Livonia's city officials. I hear there are some homes to be demolished and rebuilt and some others to be remodeled. Every home that is improved is a good thing.
