About a month ago I was very struck by a Pay It Forward blog I read by Rain Silverhawk . This post with only 9 comments was an epiphany for me.

In her blog Hire Someone for a Day Whether you need it or Not... Rain writes:

"Some friends and I were talking about the down turn in the economy and counting our blessings that we are still doing ok. The conversation came around to how we could do our little part to help out. We decided that we would hire a local to do some chores once a week." Rain Silverhawk

We all know Charities need and deserve our help more than ever but what about the people who don't need charity, all they need is work - or in many cases just more work...? Especially right before the Holidays. So for the past 30 days I've been getting some needed work done.

No haggling over price

No getting 3 estimates

No doing myself to save money

No bill me later, I paid right then & there.

here's my list:

I got my gutters cleaned.
My deck power washed.
A badly needed sliding glass door replaced.
Some annoying plumbing work finally fixed.
Leaves raked by a local kid.
My roof ridge replaced.
and a hazardous walkway replaced!!

Thanks Rain & the Pay It Forward Group!

Good for you Dave!  I have been getting several much needed projects completed around here too!  I didn't haggle either, but did get more than one estimate.  What a great idea of doing what we can to help others less fortunate!

Out here in our wonderful state, if you hired someone for the day, they’d probably sue you for wrongful termination at the end of the day. This is not an employer-friendly state.

Sometimes the hard part here is finding someone to hire.

We try and do hire from time to time but it is always hard to find people abe and willing to work.  :)
