Do I have to "Paint" my home to sell it?

Do I have to "Paint" my home to sell it?

It depends! Many homes are decorated beautifully and tastefully with colors that are to the owners preference. But what if your home is painted green and all my furniture is pink and blue. Yes, maybe I do need new furniture! But the point is that I cannot picture my belongings in your home. Therefore, I go to the next home.

I suggest that the home be "neutralized". Paint it colors that will go with any furniture. If you visit many new homes, you will see that the decorators have done this.

Fresh paint can make a great first impression!

If it is crazy now...YES.

I always advise my sellers to "build it into the price" as they could never pick the correct color for the new buyer anyway.

If you have exotic colors you might want to consider touch up and then if it becomes an issue, then negotiate a credit toward closing for painting if that becomes a sticking point. Other than that, if your walls are already white, why not throw and even coat of white on them to make sure all the hand prints and stuff are gone.

Do you usually tell them to paint or give a credit? which way is best?

I like your suggestion about neutralizing color. Sellers need to understand that not everyone may appreciate their color palette. And "freshly painted" is always a good feature to have in the listing information.
