The Turkey Trot in Cotati CA

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner CalBRE# 01433049

Thanksgiving in my home this year was on Saturday, after waiting for 4 remaining family members to arrive.

Because of this, the Turkey Trot couldn't begin until Sunday morning, just to be safe.

Sure enough, I went outside to fetch the Sunday morning paper and about 30 "Thanksgiving survivors" were parading up and down my street.

They stopped traffic and weren't in any hurry to let anyone by. Even the Chihuahua I had in tow couldn't get them to move any faster.

Count your blessings, you lucky Turkeys!

That's an amazing sight Cynthia.  Thanksgiving was Wednesday at my house ... it usually is as my brother works on Thanksgiving Day.  This year so did my husband and my daughter and I volunteered.  I hope you had a wonderful day with your family on Saturday.  I don't think it matters if we "Give Thanks" a few days early or late.

Cynthia, Now that's a real Turkey Trot.  I ran in a 5K which is called the Turkey Trot.  No real birds there.

Now that's a classic!  Do you usually see that many in your 'hood?  Are they a gang?  No, wait, is it gaggle?  No, that's geese.  Guess I'll have to gobble google it.

Tammy - rarely does Thanksgiving land on Thursday anymore for me. You are right, it doesn't matter what day as long as everyone can get together.

Marian - The Toms were trotting after the hens, trying to establish the "pecking" order. They are fun to watch. No real birds in your Turkey Trot? Not even a few chicks?

CA - LOL, that was a good one. The most common name for a gang of turkeys is a "rafter" of turkeys. Some call them a flock, but I like rafter better ... flock belongs to seagulls, right?

Tish - well I will tell you this much, the street and sidewalks had turkey doo-doo everywhere. We really had to watch where we were stepping.

Donne - it is pretty funny, out there celebrating like that!

All Turkeys are safe when it comes to my taste. I try it once every year! It's kind of like picked Herring for us Norwegians I guess!

You title reminds me of a song by the Undisputed Trutch called Smiling Faces:

The truth is in the eyes
Cause the eyes don't lie, amen
Remember a smile is just
A frown turned upside down
My friend let me tell you
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof...

Charles - the Toms have plumes much like a peacock, they have quite the strut.

Cece - I agree, that's what I like the most as well. Well that and watching them fly in and out of trees.

Jane - LOL, I wouldn't think so!

Paul - I'll have a turkey sandwich during the year, but as far as eating turkey on it's own, I'm with you. Once a year. And now I have another 360 days to go before I see another one!

Charita - You know what? That is probably where I got the title to the blog you are referring to, I remember that song VERY WELL.

Cynthia....That is quite a site.  I have never seen that many live turkeys before.  What were they doing parading in the street?

Those turkeys are much safer in your neck of the woods, than in Texas. Dang, those little guys would be dinner before they made it to the end of the street in most of these neighborhoods
