Diane,  What a wonderful memory you bring up!!!  I haven't thought of the Sear Christmas catalog in years and you are right that is was an absolute essential part of the holiday season.  How many times did I search through those pages?   Thanks for the walk down memory lane.......

Diane, Thank you for bringing back memories of my childhood. My mother used catalogs a lot in the 50's and 60's and my favorite was Montgomery Wards. I saved up and ordered a mini-bike from it and I must have but several thousand miles on it.

It was a tradition in our home too! What a great way to tie it to the Toys for Tots program!

Diane, I remember ordering from the Sears catalog every year for Christmas for my girls.  I had totally forgotten that until I read your blog.  Great memories.

What a great memory - leafing through the catalog and circling those we wanted. Thanks for the reminder of Toys for Tots. I found quite a few "steals" at Target on Thanksgiving weekend - a lot of board games for just $2.00. And, the toy stores all have those "sale" bins where everything's like a dollar or 2. Every year, the grandkids are given $10 to pick out a toy or toys to donate for toys for tots - one picks out books, one picks out dolls, and the other picks out craft things since that what they like the best.

We didn’t get a toy catalog from Sears, but we got a Fall and a Spring catalog. Now I’m all depressed about my childhood…. J

Diane, OH how special are our memories.  With 11 siblings we seemed to always have a great Christmas. I can still remember my Dad waking all us kids to tell us Santa just left and come see what he brought. He loved Christmas and watching us opening our presents.

Diane - Boy is that ever the truth.  When my kids were young, they and I looked forward to Christmas edition that came out each autumn.  I did more shopping out of those catalogues than I bought in stores.  I miss them a great deal.

Diane--I never knew about the Sears catalogue until I was an adult.  I know I would have enjoyed 'shopping' in the catalogue.  Really nice post to end with Toys for Tots.  Not all children are lucky enough to receive that one toy they wish for.

Diane, really liked the Toys for Tots video.  I was watchin news tonight where a few thousand bikers in Chicago had their Toy run...it was 15 degrees out...let me tell you...that's cold on a bike...and that's dedication to an idea.

My brother and I would study that catalog for hours!  We picked out lots of cool stuff and Santa would bring some of the many items we circled!  We were so blessed.  Thanks for this reminder.....I have a friend who is collecting Toys for Tots and I need to take some gifts to her.

I hadn't thought about that in a long time!  That was such a huge book and like Ann we would look for hours!

My favorite catalog was the F.A.O. Schwartz catalog.  Oh, how I loved to look through that.  I remember that was the most worn out catalog in the house.  Thanks for the memories.

Diane, I remember getting the catalogs too (it wasn't Sears since I grew up in Europe) and doing the same thing, always flipping to the toy section and picking and dreaming... thanks for the memory!

Happy New Year’s, Diane. I LOVED reading through the toys section of our Sears Christmas catalog! I would read about each toy and every game over-and-over, prioritizing which ones to ask Santa for. Great memories.

Diane, your home sounds very much like the memories of our home! Congratulations on obtaining over the 200K milestone. Quite an accomplishment!

That was a cute little video.  The Sears Catalog was not such a big deal for us as kids, as we lived "in town" and we had a real store to go to.

Diane, My family enjoyed that catalog too.  Yes there is such a magic to Christmas.  Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the reminder.  Chief Cook got a last-minute call last year from a guy who wanted to donate two bikes.   She was frantic to find someone who would take them and get them to some kids.  It was a success!
