Sometimes the Littlest Things Can Drive You Nuts

My BlackberryThey say you shouldn't sweat the small stuff. I don't believe it for a second.

Whoever said that first is an idiot. They certainly weren't thinking about my Blackberry, or technology.

Speaking of little things, my trackball went on the fritz the other day.  Not completely, just enough to drive me nuts.

I could scroll left, right and up, but not down. Weird, and a pain in the tail.

No scrolling down through emails and recent phone calls

No checking in on Foursquare

No accessing apps below the top navigation line

It's amazing how such a little thing could be such a burden, and an aggravation. I was crippled, unable to communicate on my beloved BB! It was NOT such a little thing after all.

Thankfully I got a new trackball at A to Z Wireless at the nearby mall the next day and all was well. Major sigh of relief.

Yeah, I know we are supposed to NOT sweat the small things. Maybe sometimes that works. But some small things are not so small, especially when it comes to technology.

But in the larger scheme of life, yep, it was pretty small. Gotta keep that in mind.

Jeff - I was at a Rutenberg Realty class on our new contracts a couple of months ago when that same thing happened. My Blackberry's track ball decided it did not want to work. Talk about a panic! I am so pleased with my new iPhone - no track ball! Think about making a change.

Hi Jeff - as they say "if you think small things have no impact, try sharing a tent with a mosquito".  Sometimes it's the small things that make you CRAZY!  I'm glad to hear that your mosquito has been tamed.

You should have called me. I would have talked you through fixing it. :) My last blackberry has a small square touch pad. works the same way as the track ball except it can't get stuck. The stuck track ball used to make me crazy!  Right up there with missing streets on the gps because I never update the map and the frequent firefox crashes I experience.

Life is all about the little things.  You better sweat them or they add up to be things and big problems.  Best of luck to you Jeff.

Technology is great..........when it works!  Right?

It drives me crazy when things like this happen.  Also, when my computer doesn't respond the way it normally should is another pert peeve of mine.  Frustrating is the word for it I guess.   Oh well, move on to the next thing right.

Robert - and I bet a few others do, too.

Pat - indeed. But they can still drive us nuts at times.

Richie - I had no idaa. But it has gotten very heavy use over the last two years so I guess I cannot complain.

Laura - I hear you, The signal thing drives me nuts as well. It seems on teh good days nothing bothers me, on the ugly days little things, well, you know.

Steve - that is a good suggestion. Maybe that would have worked. But the fact that it ws fine in other directions was odd, who knows. Anyhow it works.

Susan - This is the first issue I have had, except the battery seems to be draining more quickly now.

Peggy - now that was creative.

Justin - I have thought about it but I hate AT & T.

Kristen - well that was a bit more serious than my issue. I am thinking about a new phone

Kat - thankfully there isn't too much small stuff. It's funny the things we don't have patience for.

Tom - ha ha. Braggart.

If we can only refrain from sweating the small stuff most of the time, we'll all be doing quite well. We're only human after all so "perfection is not required, just perfect effort."

Pam - oh so true.

Ellie - yep, I get that. The good old days. Helps keep things in persepctive.

Bryan - I thin we know that at some leve. It certainly seems to be true, especially for phones.

Steven - those realities REALLY help us keep things in persepctive. It's so easy to lose thatfocus and worry about thing that, in the larger scheme, are just not that important.

George - some days are like that. LOL

Fernando - ha ha. You crack me up. But it might be worth the try.

Hi Jeff -- My trackball seems to partially fail from perhaps oil/lotion/etc on my fingers at times and it just doesn't move.  Wait a bit and it works.  We are so dependent on technology these days, the rare time when I leave home without my bb, I panic!

Jeff - Sometimes it's the small stuff that's the most annoying.  Ever had a pebble in your shoe or a papercut?  Utterly distracting and annoying.

Glad it's working again.

I'm on Blackberry #3.

And it's always that Pearl that fails.

Rubbing alcohol, begging the service guy at Verizon, shopping on Crackberry, downloading "How to Replace the Pearl" videos from YouTube.

My life depends on that Pearl!

Jeff,  I just upgraded to a Blackberry Bold.  My trackball was just about to go, and they were giving me money towards a new phone.  Imagine that!  The guy at Verizon told me the trackballs are the first thing to go.  Good thing you got a new one!  What would we do without our berries?

Hi Jeff,

I once had that problem too with my Blackberry Bold. I didn't like the fact that I had to be so dependent on the trackball. If the trackball didn't work, then the phone became useless. I upgraded to the iPhone and I just love it. No trackball or such things. I just need my fingers haha. Maybe you should consider an android or iphone if the problem persists.
