What do Buffalo New York and Newnan Georgia have in common this morning? Why, the temperature of course!

Freezing weather is common in Newnan Georgia!I was talking to a business associate in Buffalo yesterday afternoon and she mentioned that they had just received their first big snowfall of the year and she was hoping to get out of the office on time..

I responded that since she lived in Buffalo, she should be used to it. She quipped: “We are, but this is the first big snow of the year!”

Perception is a funny thing. And everything is relative. Many people believe that here in middle Georgia we don’t have to deal with the cold.

And while it is true that we don’t have to deal with as MUCH cold, we still experience a significant freezing weather that requires vacant homes without utilities to be winterized to prevent frozen pipes from bursting!

I checked the weather channel this morning. We don’t have snow on the ground here in Newnan, but the temperature is identical to that in Buffalo New York ,,, 27 degrees.

Brrr … I think I’ll have third cup before getting out in the cold!

Hi Richard,

That is so true.  I grew up in Michigan and now live in Tennessee.  Whenever it is cold out, people say to me, "you must be use to it being from up north."  NO, not only have I lived down here for 16 years, but our temporatures are very similar to yours!  I just wish we had the pretty white stuff!

It does feel what you are use to .. here in Texas we get to have surprises .. right now we are the perfect low 70s but it is going to have a big drop and tomorrow the temps climb down, down to the low 30s.  Keeps us wardrobe guessing.  Yes, it will feel very cold and time to break out the hot chocolate and coat, then off again to shorts the next day.

I was one of those people living under the illusion that Georgia does not get cold. ...Surprising.  We also have a low of 27 today.
