Camera Suggestions Please

I am looking for some suggestions on a new camera. My digital camera has finally died and I need to replace it. I have had it a long time, so I am a little out of the loop on the current trends. I currently have a Kodak, and would like to stay with that manufacturer, simply so I can continue to use my docking station.

I have done some research here on the Rain. Several members have discussed the Kodak V705. My biggest concern with this camera is that is consistently gets POOR photo quality ratings in reviews. I have a really hard time running out and buying a camera for our staging photos that gets those kind of ratings. I read the posts by Jeff Turner and by Tim Maitski and they both really like this camera. I also read the post by Greg Fox and he wasn't so crazy about it. So, I'm just not sure I trust it.

I am looking for an easy to use, good photo quality camera with a wide lens option. Anyone have a camera they just love?

I have been happy with my Olympus for many years. But, It was bulky, so I bought a Kodak C763 and gave my husband the old Olympus.

I'm not nearly as happy with the Kodak and will start shopping for a newer, slimmer Olympus. The quality of the photos are not nearly as good, and at times seem real dark. I've messed with all the different settings and am just not real happy with it.

Amanda, I hate my digital camera, its a Cannon. I think my old 35mm takes much better pictures. I'm not advising you go that route but thats what I do and have them put on a CD to transfer to my computer. I just don't think digital camera are all that good. Convenient yes, but the picture quality is not great. Good luck!

I'm with Jeff Turner and many, many others here on A/R -- LOVE my Kodak V705. It takes much better real estate photos than most similar cameras.....but if you're a professional photographer or similar, you'd probably want to spend a LOT more and get something else. For me, this one is fantastic. Realtors always ask me what type of camera I'm using.

Andrea: The Kodak I have now takes dark pictures also. I have always been able to correct them with the Kodak software, so it has not a big problem.

Terry: I have not played around much with a Cannon. I know that digital cameras can be as good of quality as 35mm film, but you have to get the right camera. I am definitely looking for convenient! :)

Maureen: I think I will go out and try to find a V705 that I can play with a little. Maybe if I can get my hands on it and actually see the pictures I will be more confident about it.

P.S. I think Kodak should be giving a discount to stagers for all the free advertising!

I'm in the prelim stages of looking for a new camera. I have a sony cybershot and it has a few major flaws. (Mine is a few years old 5 megapixels and they may have corrected since then...) but here were my issues with it...

- Delay in taking photo... when you press the button there is a slight delay in when the picture is actually taken. The problem with this is only people with super steady hands can take a good photo with the camera. Many people use my camera and just get blurry photos. You have to be perfectly still - concentrate. I hate that.

- Flash reset takes forever.... when you use the flash it has to reset. It takes a really long time (5-10 seconds)... that is just really unacceptable to me when you want to snap two quick pictures and you have people waiting and now they have to wait longer while you stand there and wait for the camera to catch up.

These issues are ones that you don't find out until you really start using the camera. I will not buy a cybershot again for these reasons.

I did not have a wide angle lens.

The people I know that have been really satisifed with their digital camers have Nikon's. One has a nikon that was around the $200-400 range and the others have Nikons that are around the $1000/range. Obviously a bigger committment. I also have heard good things about canons' but I am not sure the models of these right now. Those are just the two brands I plan on ivestigating.

These days it's hard to find a truly bad digital camera. I look for something smallish that has at least six megapixels and built-in recharger.

Hi Amanda. I did a lot of research too before buying my new camera. I decided to go with the Panasonic TZ3. It has the wide angle lens just like the Kodak, but it also has a 10x zoom lens which is really fantastic. Mind you, you won't need the zoom lens for staging photos but it's great for other picture taking. We just took it on our vacation and I got some fantastic pictures with the zoom. I have had no problem with photo quality. I really love the camera. You might want to do some research on it.

I also just got the Panasonic Lumix TZ3 after much research and I am very pleased with it! I like the 3in. LCD screen, wide angle, and all the options it has for a point and shoot. I was looking into getting a Canon SD but the wide angle won me over. I found it at Costco for $319.
