With Thanksgiving behind us, enter the official start of the Christmas Season. For most of us, December is a time of visiting with friends and family, shopping, entertaining, and travel. Some even take trips to typical vacation destinations, such as Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Now, I'm not a person who really appreciates crowds. If there's a concert, I'd rather watch online if that's an option. Shopping? Give me a store where I can get it all in one place, and the further away from the mall, the better! I just don't like having to fight for parking, wait in long lines, or be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of people. Sometimes, however, circumstances arise in which we have to step out and do those things we'd rather not. And, we have to do them with a smile on our faces, because they are important to people we care about. I'm talking about my upcoming trip to Disneyland, with 3 of my children. My younger girl, Miya, who is 10, dances with a local competitive dance team called Rainbow Express. Rainbow Express Dance Company (REDCO), operates through the City of Norco Parks and Recreation Department. In addition to the competitions they attend, they are often asked to dance at local area activities and celebrations.
This year has been a big year for REDCO, with many opportunities for the girls to show off their dance skills through their Christmas Show performances. Last weekend, they performed at the Riverside Plaza on Saturday and then the Riverside Festival of Trees on Sunday. Coming up this weekend, there is the Norco tree lighting parade and ceremony on Saturday (if you're in the Norco area, come watch at Nellie Weaver/Ingalls Park - parade is at 5 and performance immediately after). then their annual show performance at Nellie Weaver on 12/15, AND....
REDCO will be performing at Disneyland on December 11. Hence, my trip to Disneyland, in support of my daughter and her dance company. Of course, I'm taking advantage of the trip and taking along my younger son, who will love the opportunity to spend a day at Disneyland, and my oldest daughter will come along to keep me company. Actually, though I'm not thrilled at those aspects of a trip to Disney that I would usually avoid - crowds, parking mess, lots of money being spent - I am thrilled at the prospect of seeing my daughter on stage at Disneyland. How exciting for her, and they put on a great show, so I'm looking forward to the crowd reaction as well.
This is a first for me, attending a performance by one of my children at a major theme park. Miya is excited about the fact that the performance is supposed to be announced throughout the park on the loudspeakers. I wonder if they really do that? I know our group has been there before, but it was many years ago, and I haven't heard any details about it. Have any of you attended a performance like this with one of your children? Would love to hear about it!
