Kodak Moment-How my first 2 kittens change me forever.

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX REAL ESTATE TODAY, Executive Broker 901-488-9590

My first pet was a dog when I was a child, I always love dogs, the bigger the better.  It is just something about those big dogs, they are fierce looking and so gentle inside, they are usually very loyal and protective.  I was never scared of big dogs, even when I was a little girl.

For some reasons, I was never fond of cats when I was young.  It's something about their look that I did not like, they looked mean to me, and they came on to you quietly, it kind of crept me out just a little bit.  I never saw myself as a cat person, never would imagine myself keeping a cat as a pet.  It would not happen, it just wouldn't.

Some time in April this year, my broker found 3 kitties under her deck in her backyard, she did what a pet lover would do, she took them in to stay with her till she found a good home for them.  She has 2 cats at home already, she couldn't keep 5 cats all under one roof.  She had been telling me about the kitties, one was very tiny and didn't look like it would make it for too long.

My 2 girls always wanted a cat as a pet, but I didn't tell them about the new found cats that my broker kept throwing hints to see if I would keep them.  My thought was I never kept a cat before and I just couldn't see myself as a cat owner, I didn't want to even try to be one.  My broker has kept them for about 2 months and just couldn't do it anymore, she was considering to take them to the animal shelter, and right before she did that, which I didn't even know that was going through her mind.  I talked to my girls one day and asked if they would like to have a cat for house pet, they were screaming YES YES YES!  I knew the answer before I asked anyway.  So, okay, I guess I would give it a try, I kept 2 kittens, one boy and one girl.  My broker continues to keep the tiniest one and see if she could keep her alive.

I am not going to lie, I was not willing to pick them up and get too close to them at first, I was still trying to accept the fact that I actually have 2 kittens at home now.  After a week or two, we, I mean the kittens and I were getting used to each other and all the new things that were going on, my connection with them grew stronger and stronger.

I finally am willing to pick them up, play with them, hold them like a baby, treat them like my baby.  I LOVE THEM!  They changed me to be a cat lover, forever.

This picture was taken when they were about 7-8 weeks old.  They are just so cute, and they are full of personalities, they make us laugh all the time.  The boy is Chub, and the girl is JJ.  In the picture, I think the one on the left (the bigger one) is Chub, the other one is JJ.

About their tiny sister, she didn't make it after all, but she lived a good life with my broker for about 3 months, and it still makes me cry thinking about her.

Here is my Chub and JJ:

It is suprising what an impact a pet can have in ones life.  Even people with Behavior problems are calmed by just peting an animal.

Awwww they are the cutest ever!  My mom and daughter have two cats...they're like night and day...literally ...personalities so different...yet they understand like doggies!  Anyway, no matter what the pet...they give us comfort in time of need...and friendship unlike any other. They don't answer back (too much) and they are fun indeed.

Sally, JJ knows her name, everytime we call her, she will look at us and see what we need.  Chub is the one which acts like a puppy, as long as you have food, he will be around.  He will ask you for food, he uses his paw and tabs on you, he is so funny.  His eyes will sparkle when he sees food, lol.

Kittens and puppies are both adorable - I grew up with a black lab, so like you, I like my dogs big, but just have cats right now - they are easier on my schedule these days!

Carol, they sure are.  It is hard not to get melted when you see those cute faces, right??  About the easiness of keeping a cat is just great.  They pretty much take care of themselves, they are clean, they are so smart that I never knew about cats.  They really taught me a lot more than I expected.

Oh, this is such a great picture, my favorite so far but then I AM a cat lover.  I have two also; got them days before they were going to the Humane Society.  They aren't as cuddly as some I have had, but it is still fun to have them around!  I bet your girls love them!

Cindy, it would be nice if you were the judge, lol.  I got them the day before my broker decided to take them to animal shelter.  It must be fate.  They are like little kids, they are so funny, sometimes comical.

Jane, I am glad I got them also.  They almost look like twins, my girls love them very much.  Chub loves my husband, he loves to hang around his "dad" like a puppy.  Thanks!

Rita, I'm glad your broker introduced you to cats.  I have always had a cat and think of myself more as a cat person than a dog person as I just love their independence.  You don't own them you are just the staff.  We do have a dog also and always have.

Marchel, I am glad I gave it a try, too.  Cats are so smart and so easy to take care.  But I still treat them like babies, haha.

So cute Rita!  We've never had cats and didn't get our dog until about 8 years ago.  I just love him to death and when I go on vacation worry about him the whole time I'm gone!
