Rural Life Muserm Christmas 2010, LSU, Baton Rouge, LouisianaSometimes as we grow older we seem to forget what is was like growing up during much simpler times as in our youth.  LSU's Rural Life Museum helps us remember.

Hard work was followed by time each day with the family at meals.  And transportation was by wagon to transport goods as well as to travel to church in nearby towns.  Schools were usually closer and you could walk to school.

Music insturements in 19th centruy rural Louisiana were handmade, like these percussion ones

The holdday season brought together citizens of the town to sing carols and make music.  Here you see some of the hand made percussion insuturements.  Can't you hear "The Little Drummer Boy"?

Child games and dancers just as in 19th century Louisiana

There will be nineteenth century yard games and storytelling by local professionals thruout the day.  And Jambalaya and gumbo dinners will be available to satisfy your apetite.  Candlelight and cypress wreaths will add to the festivity and help create an old-fashioned Louisiana Christmas atmosphere.  Al bonfire just at dusk will bring cheer and warmth to all.

Don't miss the fun.  Come out this weekend and experience life as in days gone by.
