A backhoe is working in my neighbor's yard tonite - Yikes!

On the way home this evening, we saw a water utility truck and a backhoe parked on our street.  They were spray painting water and utility lines in the yard and I saw water where there shouldn't be water ( it is below 32 degrees).  The technician in the backhoe says there is a water leak somewhere - they are waiting for a water line schematic before they dig.  I sure hope the problem doesn't migrate across the street.

This actually reminds me to remind all of our sellers about properly closing down a sprinkler system for the winter.  If you haven't winterized your sprinkler system, it may be too late.  With temperatures below freezing, your backflow device is very vulnerable to freezing and cracking.  None of this will be good news for your wallet.

I hope you are luckier than we were.  There was an underground leak down the street from us and the utility company dug up the area three times over an 18 month period before they finally found it.  I hate to think of how much precious water was wasted - not to mention what undermining might have occurred.  It was downhill a ways from our house so we weren't affected except that every time they worked on it, our water was turned off for 6-8 hours at a time.

Leilani-We had a building inspection done on one of our listings yesterday and a water leak at the backflow valve was mentioned.  It is cold so I called the seller right away to notify the sprinkler company of this issue.  He said it was winterized.  We will see!

Susan, So far so good.  Our water is still on... as I typed that I heard our outside faucet being turned on, then off.  Our water is off but the tech said for only a few minutes.  He said the problem is resolved.  YEAH!
