Love(d) my iphone, but hate AT&T....so should I switch to Verizon's Droid?

To this day, every single manufacturer is still aiming to be the "next" iPhone, or to be the iPhone "killer". Hmmmm.....perhaps I should re-think NOT getting another iPhone?

iphone video callingSeems like every 2 years, I switch phones (and computers). And I am at that crossroads again. Although I love(d) my iPhone 4, the pain of frequently dropping calls due to AT&T's dead zones, of the iPhone saying there's no SIM card installed, the occasional inability to return/forward/respond to emails totally dilute its effectiveness and efficiency.

Since my 2-year contract is up, I've been researching which phone to get and how it compares to the iPhone 4. The new iPhone 4 is soooooooo enticing!  And with 300,000 + applications for iPhone versus roughly 30,000 for Droid, iPhone still very much leads this field.

From iPhone's website, latest highlights of the iphone include video calls, video recording

But gosh.....I'd still have to deal with AT& T...or maybe i should wait until iPhone is offered through Verizon?

The more I research, the more confused I get. Everyone has an opinion, of course...

The amusing thing is that there are so many phones being compared to iPhone --- several versions of the Droid such as the Droid 2, Droid X, Droid Incredible --- but only one iPhone

Good morning Pacita, I have the Droid and my brother had the iphone. He tried to get me to switch to the iphone but I couldn't I need the insurance. A few months again he switched to the droid and he told me he loved it. Right after the first of the year I am being told we will have the two cameras and we have already gone to 4 g.  Just thought I would let you know I love my droid,

I'm all about the Droid.  The app availability has already surpassed the iPhone (from what I've heard) and the users just keep increasing.

I have Altell but they are switching over to Verizon. Means the Droid is coming with them. I think I might make the switch.

AT&T service in our area sucks * many UVa and military who move to the area and expect good service are disappointed as it is the OLD SunCom network....KNOWING the best phone SERVICE for the area is crucial....I'll make the switch to a DROID in March as a mi-fi for my iPAD

I have a Droid, and still happy with it, I must confess that I do not use all the bells and whistles it come with. sometimes all I want is a darn good connection for a decent phone call, I understand your confusion, but I also know that you will get the right one, you know more about it than most of us.

Pacita,

I have Verizon and am very happy with the service.  It seems to be better than many of the other companies I see in this area.  I have a Blackberry Storm, it has many of the apps that the Iphone does and my associates who have gotten the Droid love it.  Good luck with your decision!

Waiting until after the holidays to make the switch. Truly, it's not the phone as much as the AT&T service (or non-service) and dropped calls. Gets really embarrassing to tell callers that I'm in a dead zone....in my own home!

Tech decisions can sure be hard to make, can't they? But--I go with Verizon since coverage on the Peninsula is infinitely better than AT&T. To me, coverage is ultimately the deciding factor.

Pacita, Great information. I am with sprint and still using Black Berry due to service issues with AT&T. My  patrner  got her Evo from sprint and it has Driod Technology. She likes it but two things about it. It is a battery HOG and also is heavy like a brick. Vedo wacthing is great.

Pacita - I made the switch and got a Droid. Too impatient to read the user's guide, I'm taking a class on the 25th to learn more of the funcationality (from Verizon). So far, so good.

Update:

I made the switch, got the Droid. But horrors! The Droid program won't synch with Microsoft Outlook. Went on several forums, got Companion Link.  Doesn't work as well as I would like. Moved to and synched with Google Calendar/Email.Contacts. Working fiine this way

Also disappointed that my favorite iphone app --- Scrabble -- isn;t on Droid app. Had to settle with Word Twist.
