Ah, its that time of year when friends come to call and Grandma comes to stay. Do you have room for all these wonderful relatives? Here is how to prepare Clarksville homes for house guests over the holidays.
This of course, is for everyone as well that will be having house guests during Christmas and other holiday events but I was inspired by an article in the Leaf Chronicle by an interior designer in Clarksville Tennessee that talked about the importance of preparing your house for holiday guests.
It's something we may all have thought of and dealt with from time to time. Keeping those relatives happy can be a struggle or you may be blessed with fabulous in-laws that never say a sour word about your way of living. If you live in that world, then go read something else. HA! This is not for you. But if you are struggling to make sure your home is the epitome of perfection for guests here are some great ideas:
- If the room is normally designed for something else make sure not much of that function remains.
Meaning, if the guest room is normally an office then clean up the best you can and try to leave all remnants of the office behind. A computer is fine as guests often like the privacy of checking their email or looking up something. But keep bills, files, envelopes and all office supplies tucked away in drawers or other areas of the house.
If it's a child's room, try and make sure the toys are neatly packed in boxes or bins and that grandma won't be tripping on cars in the middle of the night on her 3rd trip to the bathroom
- Speaking of bathrooms, if you have a separate bathroom for guests this is ideal.
Many do not so make sure the bathroom that the guest will be using is spotless and tidy. Thin
k of the best bathroom in the best hotel you have ever stayed in. Try and mimic this with a basket of travel sized toiletries and a vase of fresh flowers. Keep a wrapped up hair dryer neatly stacked on the counter or offer the guest an empty drawer for their items while they are staying with you. Guests don't want to stare at your copy of Fish and Game or your cruddy toothbrush so make sure they are stowed away as well.
- When talking baskets, it helps to have a basket in the bedroom itself for items that guests may feel uncomfortable asking for.
Guests may feel odd asking for items from the kitchen so have a glass with a bottle of water and some snacks handy for that midnight snack that may strike. Anything else you can think of will make the guest feel warm and comfortable. Remember, they want to be in their own bed, so make this stay as pleasant as you can for them.
