Your business sucks... Why do you blame everything else but yourself?

Blame GameYour business sucks right now.  You took 20 listings last year (40 the year before) and through the end of this year, you listed 12.  12...  Yes, only 12.

You blame the copier, I mean it always jams.  Sometimes it is out of toner, or paper or something...  So you can't go into the office today, since it will be just a waste of your time.  And you have sooooo many things to do today.  You got to the office at the last minute to print your fliers, and left mad...

You blame the phone system in the office.  It keeps dropping your calls.  And sometimes you blame the  voicemail since you think it doesn't accept the incoming calls, so you KNOW that all the calls from your clients that are looking for you are being lost.

You blame the weather for your failed open house attempts...  So you have given up on them.  It was either too sunny (people went to the park that day), a sports event, too rainy, too windy, too something...

Have you ever thought of looking in the mirror and blaming yourself?

Ever thought of not waiting till the last minute to print your fliers?  I mean, there are two different types of photocopiers out there anyways...  Ones that are broken and ones that are about to break...

Ever thought of realizing that maybe your phone just isn't ringing, and that is why you don't have any voicemails?  If you spend more time making outbound calls, then maybe your phone would start inbound calls.

Ever thought that if you prepared a bit more for your open houses, you would have better results?  Maybe canvas the ‘hood, or mailers, or longer hour, or more signs, or social media?

So are you placing blame in the right direction?  Is it really these things, or it is actually you...

Getting into production action, and learning how do do things better is a great start.  By doing these simple things, in time you will start to love your business, and love your job!  And in a short time from now, you will no longer think you business sucks..  You will soon realize it ROCKS!

Great post. The blame game usually starts slowly and before we realize what is going on, it's too late and we end up losing thousands of dollars. This is exactly why I recommend working with a good coach to make sure you stay on track.

Good post Chris.  You're right, it's all about holding yourself accountable.  If more agents would focus on fixing what isn't working they'd do better.  If they'd just do two things from "Seven Habits..." including making lists and remembering to do "first things first" they'd be better off.

Asam - I agree with your comment.  A coach can definatily help...  as long as you get into the mindset to be coachable.  :)

Lots of agents with excuses.  Just look in the mirror and figure out why you aren't connecting with buyers and/or sellers.
