In our vigilance to protect business profits, we all look for the best value in inventory. For some, this means buying high quality pieces that will hold up over time, returning the greatest rental totals. For others it means "recycling" by finding deals in bargain basements, thrift stores and yard sales. These items may not last as long, but they're often "paid for" with the first job. Regardless, the look of our work is our trademark, our reputation, and our advertising all rolled into one.
(Shameless self promotion: and, by the way, here's one of mine, which included repainting these walls from sponged cobalt blue).
Some of us go neutral and classic; some of us go bold and trendy. All good stuff, because our businesses must naturally reflect who we are as stagers and designers (yes....I step to the edge of the cliff, daring to use the "D" word. Fire away at me; I can take it). But we're ALL buying, ALL the time.
In order for our inventory to have the longest possible (VISUAL) shelf life, we all would benefit from awareness of upcoming color and fashion trends. With this in mind, I share information from the upcoming MATERIAL WORLD trade show in New York. For the full story, check out the Material World website.
For Capital Style Staging, I've developed 3 basic collections: neutral/rustic/homespun....then vibrant/fun/trendy......then classical/timeless. Typically, I will blend collections to suit the home and the target market. Let it also be said that I don't have a TON of inventory.
Here are the new home fashion color palettes that launch this fall. Whether you choose to adjust your buying to trends, or to stay neutral classical....that's up to you. But this, apparently, is where the industry is going. I suggest these to you as thoughts when choosing accessories and accent paint. I am not advocating running out to buy lime green love seats and sky blue chairs.
Just my two cents, from the Queen of Cheap!
Cheers! from DC...
