Retiree Growth Continues in Cumberland County
Despite the recession,retiree growth continues in Cumberland County Tennessee. Don Alexander from the Crossville Tennesse Housing Authority says, "We've been recruiting practically from the beginning of time".Retirees are responding to this effort for the cost of living is so low compared to other areas of the country. Cumberland County has the lowest tax structure in the state.
In the 60's, Lake Tansi was created for retirees and soon to follow was Fairfield Glade . Both communities offer many activites for someone vacationing and retiring here in Tennessee. Retirees are very active today and want golf, hiking, tennis, fishing, boating and more. Walking and hiking are the two main factors that attract retirees to Cumberland County.
Cumberland County would have more retirees move here, but they are having a hard time selling their homes in states such as Michigan, Florida and Indiana. But people are still coming to Cumberland County. Reports show there were 58 new utility accounts opened in October. Retirees bring economic stability to Crossville Tennessee. For every retiree that moves to Crossville-1.75 jobs are created locally.
Retirees contribute so much to the local community for they volunteer their services and time to organizations such as local schools, the hospital and non-profit organizations.
"Retirement Lifestyles" recently named Cumberland County Tennessee as one of the 21 best places to retire.
