Really? Diversity Training Through Drumming?

Diversity Training Through Drumming? Umm...hello?

What does that even mean?  And how can one learn to deal with diversity through the simple act of beating a drum?  I happened across the website www.ubdrumcircles.com today while doing some Administrative Assistant research…and I was amazed. Could the simple act of drumming be so effective?

So, Diversity Training Through Drumming…what does that mean...really?  Apparently, Christine Stevens, founder of UpBeat Drum Circles, believes that by gathering a group of people and bringing them together with one language, the language of rhythm (drum), we can begin to understand one another at our most basic levels…as well as at our highest levels.  There is a great bit more detailed information on the subject here, but I have to say that viewing her published client list really gave me cause to explore more...if these huge corporations were getting on board...there must be some research into its effectiveness for them to hire her for their events.

After watching some video’s of Christine’s events and reading through her website, I have to wonder...should Diversity Training Through Drumming be fit into the schedules of our world’s leaders?  Maybe it would help them to bridge the language gaps and finally come together with a common goal…one of peace, health and wellness, both spiritually and economically, for our world.

Big box real estate corprations and NAR should look into this for their events.  Are you a corporation looking to bring your employees together?  I think that Christine’s Diversity Training Through Drumming would be great for a corporate event or retreat…perhaps you should get her on your 2011 calendar today while she still has spots open…I noticed that her schedule seems to be filling up already! Apparently this helps wholistically...the Mind, Body, Spirit and Community.

Diversity Training Through Drumming…who knew?!?

Music has been proven to expand the minds of children who grow up playing instruments. It makes sense that even as adults learning something like the drums can be an effective way to gain a new perspective. The world leaders idea is hilarious.

Thanks, Jeremy...for stopping by and commenting.  I have always had a love of music, but this idea in corporate training...or political training ;-) really fascinated me!

Very interesting concept Christine.  I wonder if it really works.  Beating a drum (even badly) always makes me feel better.

I took the NAR diversity training program many years ago and hope it has changed.  The most memorable part of it for me was my unhappy surprise when we were asked to put on the board the typical stereotypes that came to mind when we thought of the various ethnic groups that were listed.  That seemed to me to perpetuate the stereotypes rather than help people get past them.

Gabe - Music of any kind always makes me feel better...I sadly, after bursting out in song with my daughter a few days ago, said to her, "gosh - do you know how long it's been since I have caught myself singing?"  It had definitely been too long!!!  I used to love to sing in the car, in the shower, while cleaning, you name it...now I guess my brain is on overload!  I am making an effort to sing Christmas carols throughout the holidays whenever possible with my kids this year!

Dennis & Terri - That would be interesting...but I have two left feet and will stick to drumming ;-)

Mary - That is awful...hopefully NAR reads this and seeks out a better method of training!

Thanks, everyone...for reading and commenting!

Hi Christine, this is a fantastic post! Thank you!

Lissening, feeling, seeing, breathing to the rythm...letting go of all that emotional dramas accumulated and cleansing the soul, mind and heart - awesome!

I feel that by just drumming delicately on the table... to my unique rythm... all that  creates vibrations...just wondering could we have a synchronised time, and date, so that all passionate drummers on AR could connect? let's say for a worthy charitable Mission? Drumming out to the world some meaningfyl inspirational themes based for e.g. on less violence in families, improving child protection, peace for the world etc...yet, inviting politicians as well to take part...

P.S. I passionately enjoy Yoga, Meditation, Reiki and Spiritual Healing...so drumming suits my DNA...besides that I am also a Licensed Real Estate Agent and Business Agent. Peter from'down under'.
