Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am cold almost every second of my life. So you can imagine this cold snap that Northern Virginia, and most of the Eastern Seaboard, is facing is a challenge for me (certainly I am not acclimated to the cold yet this early in the season).
Being a 'glass half full' kinda gal, I decided to to assemble a list of all of the positives to come out of this bitter winter weather. So here is my list, so far:
- Roaring fires in the fireplace
- Fresh wreaths hung out doors will remain fresh
- Looking for Christmas Trees feels more seasonally appropriate (I took this one from the Christmas tree guy on the news last night--personally, I enjoy finding my tree when it is 60 degrees out!)
- I get to wear my cozy, heavy sweaters
- It is perfectly acceptable to stay in the house all day (not really, but it feels more reasonable)
- No landscaping guilt...the ground is frozen solid
- Feels seasonal, not ridiculous, when you are walking around bundled up like a snowman
- Finally, can justify walking around in Uggs
- No worries about random puddles, they are all frozen solid
- Wearing 10 layers no longer looks quite so strange
- Drinking hot chocolate feels almost medicinal
- COMFORT FOODS!!!!
That's all I can come up with, but it did make me feel (slightly) better. I know there are plenty of folks out there who would see this as 'bitter cold--light' but we are not used to it like other parts of the country. The truth is that we are just not as prepared as other places.
Stay warm...cuddle up!
