Reasons to be happy about this bitter cold spell in Northern Virginia

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am cold almost every second of my life. So you can imagine this cold snap that Northern Virginia, and most of the Eastern Seaboard, is facing is a challenge for me (certainly I am not acclimated to the cold yet this early in the season).

wind chill

Being a 'glass half full' kinda gal, I decided to to assemble a list of all of the positives to come out of this bitter winter weather. So here is my list, so far:

  1. Roaring fires in the fireplace
  2. Fresh wreaths hung out doors will remain freshfireplace
  3. Looking for Christmas Trees feels more seasonally appropriate (I took this one from the Christmas tree guy on the news last night--personally, I enjoy finding my tree when it is 60 degrees out!)
  4. I get to wear my cozy, heavy sweaters
  5. It is perfectly acceptable to stay in the house all day (not really, but it feels more reasonable)
  6. No landscaping guilt...the ground is frozen solid
  7. Feels seasonal, not ridiculous, when you are walking around bundled up like a snowman
  8. Finally, can justify walking around in Uggs
  9. No worries about random puddles, they are all frozen solid
  10. Wearing 10 layers no longer looks quite so strange
  11. Drinking hot chocolate feels almost medicinal
  12. COMFORT FOODS!!!!
That's all I can come up with, but it did make me feel (slightly) better. I know there are plenty of folks out there who would see this as 'bitter cold--light' but we are not used to it like other parts of the country. The truth is that we are just not as prepared as other places.

Stay warm...cuddle up!

Us northerners delight in sleeping with down comforters, long johns and lonlg comfortable scarfs to get along in our cold months. Love my long johns!

I love the icey cold and snow; when I am inside looking out at it.  Otherwise I am glad I live in California.
