Snow falling in Battle Creek, Michigan is something that we who live here come to expect. It is now December 2010, and although we have been somewhat pardoned this season from having snow until now, it is kind of hard to get into the holiday spirit when there is none of the white stuff coming down or on the ground.
Snow falling in Battle Creek, Michigan brings about a natural cleanliness to the landscape, and an ambience that is peaceful to behold. Sure, it is a time that we dig out winter coats from the back of the closet, and scramble to find out boots long stored away since the spring.
Yes, our days are shorter, and the cold weather becomes weary at times, with the gray skies continually hiding the sun. There is no denying that winter has its own unique brand of harshness that is a far cry from the lazy days of summer.
In fact every winter when there is snow falling in Battle Creek, Michigan at some point I try to remember what it is like to be able to walk around outside with a T-Shirt and shorts. It seems an impossible concept, especially when you are bundled in your long johns, and layers of clothing and jackets, and still are bitten with the icy fingers of the wind and snow of January, February or March.
Still, despite all these things, I still smile when I see snow falling in Battle Creek, Michigan and look forward to the Christmas season with my wife, family and our friends. I am sure others who live in the Northern states, and parts of the world where winter is winter share similar sentiments, despite the knowledge of the oncoming bitterly cold months ahead.
I still count the days until summer comes again, but I also enjoy the winter when it arrives. As a Realtor I find that people are more actively looking for a home in the winter months, perhaps because this time of the year pushes one to stay in motion to remain warm? Whatever the case, I enjoy the first snowfall.
