The holiday “whirlwind effect.” It accelerates as we get older!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

The holidays go by in a flash! My wife and I were discussing the possibility of watching one of our favorite holiday movies last night: “A Christmas Carol” starring George C. Scott as the cantankerous miser Ebeneezer Scrooge.

I remarked that we had just recently seen the movie. After a careful analysis, it turns out that “recently” was last Christmas, one year ago.

And although I know that is a fact, it seems like just a few month ago. The year whizzed by in a whirlwind.

When I was a child, the L O N G E S T period of the year was the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Time nearly stood still as we languished in the pervasive anticipation of the annual visit from Santa.

These days, the trickling sands of time are more like a torrent., The days pass on by like a NASCAR racer on the straightaway..

Last year’s “next year” is now this year! (Think about that.) All of the things that I said I would do for the holidays are inching more towards the back burner every day.

But that doesn’t matter so much anymore!

Because next year will be here in the blink of an eye!

Richard, Time is flying by!  Part of that becomes evident as I look in my picture folder for all our blog photos...summer into fall into winter...seems like we just started, but six months in no time!

As a child time went by quickly whenever we were doing anything fun...now that I am older it flies by when I am not doing anything!

So true about time.

I use to love watching it's a wonderful life and it seems like I saw it yesterday also but it was over a year and I will wait till the 23rd to see it again.

The funny thing is every year people say Christmas creeps up on them but they new about it on the 26th last year lol

Enjoy the day

Glad I got my hug, was great to meet you.

My Grandmother used to say... life was like toilet paper... the closer you got to the end of the roll the faster it goes...

it seems to be true.  And I usually get out my Christmas movies in August... and watch a few of them.... just because.

That whirlwind is active at my house too!

Me -"Can you put those tree lights out this year?"

Husband-"Sure, I do every year!"

Me-"You haven't put those out for three years."

Husband-"Oh....seems like I just took them down."

When I was a child my Grandmother used to tell me "the older you get the faster time flys"! Boy was she ever right. Time stands still for no one.

Richard:

That is all too true.  And, I don't mind Christmases coming and going.  But I dislike the birthdays coming around and around so quickly.

I am so sure that time is happening faster. I simply cannot get everything done. We put off doing any decorating outside and it's been no higher than 20 this week. Tomorrow in 30s, but I have a 12 hour day, and then back down into teens next week. Glad to hear I'm no the only one.

Richard, you are so right. And boy do I love that movie... I mean, I really love that movie!

"I wear the chain I forged in life. I made it link by link and yard by yard. Is its pattern strange to you or would you know the length of the strong coils you bear yourself? It was as full, as heavy, as long as this seven Christmas Eves ago, you have labored on it since, it is a ponderous chain!" (yes, I know much of this part by heart, LOL)

And of course, "Mankind was my business, the common welfare was my business"

There is so much to learn from that movie, and each and every time I watch it I am amazed at how the message is still such an important one.

I just love it! That and... White Christmas of course. Oh yeah... and "A Christmas Story". What can I say...

Time really does seem to fly by the older we get and it's not fair.  I remember the torture of waiting for Christmas as a child as well.  Not anymore.  It's here in a flash.
