SentriLock Tip of the Week: Automatic SentriCard Renewal

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with SentriLock, LLC
Yesterday on twitter a SentriLock user expressed their unhappiness with our system not having the same automatic overnight updates as are available with Supra. I immediately responded to that person that we DO have the ability to set up automatic renewals. I advised her to contact support to have them walk her through the steps since it was too much to put into 140 characters.

YouTubeThe exchange gave me the idea to make this week's tip about how you can set up your SentriLock Card Utility to automatically renew your SentriCard!

**Please Note: In order for this to work, you have to remember to leave your SentriCard in the card reader, and have the card utility running in the background!**
  1. Put your card in your reader, when your ID fills in, enter your PIN and check the 'renew without password' box, then renew your card.
  2. With your card still in the reader, click on 'Setup' and then 'Options' at the top of the log in screen.
  3. Click on 'Auto renew' to enable the auto renewal option. You can either choose to have your card update as soon as it is inserted into the reader each time, or have it renew at a specified time each day.
  4. If you choose to renew at a specified time each day, you will want to select a convenient time for you.
  5. Click 'ok' and your auto renewal settings are completed!
  6. Remember to have your computer on with the card utility running in the background and your card inserted into the reader for the process to work properly.

If you'd like assistance going through these steps, please feel free to contact our Customer Care Team at 1-877-736-8745. They are available 7 days a week from 8am - Midnight ET.

I operate Windows 7 and find I have to go the services tab every time to manually activate the start of Smart Card, which is very inconvenient...Whenever I ask customer service, I am told to call the manufacturer of my computer. My compiuter is one year old and I have no problems with other devices.  Other Suggestions, please...

Alright June, I got the following information for you:

The common reason for this issue is due to Windows or another application preventing the SmartCard service from starting on its own. One thing you could try to do is make sure the SmartCard service is set to start automatically by doing the following:

1. Click on the Windows circle in the bottom left-hard corner of the screen.
2. Right click on Computer and click on Properties.
3. In the left panel, click on Services and Applications and then double click on Services.
4. Find the Services item in the list and double click on it.
5. Make sure that the start up type is set to Automatic and restart your computer.

If this does not help, a common cause of this issue is due to some applications which state that they will increase the performance of your computer. Applications of this manner may disable the SmartCard service to increase performance, as it is generally not used by home users. The problem could also be due to your computer going to sleep when not in use.

If problems continue, please let me know. In the meantime, I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Laura,

Thanks for your response. Every time I want to use my card, I do exactly what you said. My computer doesn't go to sleep, so it must be the application. I bought my computer new a year ago and it was doing this before I had installed anything. Do you think Kapersky could be the culprit? If so, how do I get Kapersky to allow Smart Card?

June -

Kapersky should not be the issue.

Please send me an email at lkreuter@sentrilock.com. I'd like to discuss another solution with you.

Thank you,
Laura
