Christmas Cards for our Soldiers

By
Real Estate Appraiser with North Country Appraisal Services

Worthwhile holiday idea: If you still do Christmas cards (and if not, you can still buy one when out shopping), take one card and send it to this address:

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

If we pass it on and everyone sends a card, what a wonderful way to say thanks to these special, brave soldiers who have given so much that we may live as we do in this great land. (If you are, or know some teachers, what a way to send a bunch while creating a teaching moment.)

Richard, Great idea - the thought was wonderful. I would have never thought to check this out with Snopes or  google Urban Legends (goes to about.com) on an Active Rain post like I do when I get emails like this. Good job on the catch and update Marchel.

What a great cause!  We adopted a soldier stationed in Iraq a couple of years ago - it was a great experience and I highly recommend it, if you can committ to a year of monthly care packages.

No, no, no. This goes around each year, but it is wrong and dangerous. See snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/walterreed.asp

At this point, the Red Cross is not accepting any more cards which were being processed in a joint venture with Pitney Bowes.  During the next 11 months, I will thoroughly research this topic and present it again next season.
