I have only posted photos in the center and at the bottom, so here are the tips for other photo insertion looks. Now I can do the photos on the left or right and use the 4 or 5 for spacing entry technique. Bookmark this for your blogging!

Geeks Unite!

An Activerain friend just asked me how to insert a picture into an Activerain post.  I decided it was just as easy to SHOW him... than to try and TELL him... so here goes:

I find it easier to write all the words in the post and THEN go back and add pictures.  Until I have it written... I don't know exactly where I'm going to want one to show up... and I'm now always sure exactly what picture I want to show (hope that makes sense)

So first thing, when you are going to do a new post on Activerain, you have a toolbar.  On that toolbar is an image of a Tree.  The Tree is what you click to get started inserting a picture on Activerain.

See those Trees? That's for Images

Activerain can be a little tricky sometimes, and I've had days when no matter which browser I used, I kept getting error messages... when that happens, I usually save my post as a draft, and come back to it an hour or two later.

After you click on the tree image - this little box will pop up (another tip... cause I've been there, done that...make sure you don't have pop-up blocker on!)

This is the box that will show up next

Click the little box with the blue tab (this really isn't intuitive is it?)

Then THIS Box shows up!

Here's where you Browse for a picture

You click BROWSE for a picture and upload from here.  I get pictures FROM a ton of places, and I like to use Picnik to edit (it's a FREE photoshop site and it has AUTOFIX, and it will STRAIGHTEN a picture if your were a little "off" when you took it!).  I normally upload them this way... you could use the box above and just insert a URL - like from your Flickr Account.  I think there's some SEO Value in that - but this is how I normally do it.

Once you click Upload - you are back to this screen.

THIS is an important Screen so Pay Attention

Fill in the description "blanks" (both of them) This is what will show up when you scroll over the picture.  They CAN help your SEO.  Then ALWAYS click the Apperance Tab.

Once you have the image ready, this is the final step

Where do you want the image to show up in the post?

See that Tree with the Lorem ipsum?  When you click on the Alignment Drop Down - you can say Right, Left, Center... and the Tree Moves!  It's literally telling you do you want the image on the right and the words on the left?  Then look at the size.  You NEVER want an image larger than 600x600.  If you change the first Dimension to something smaller - it will automatically change the second dimension in scale.

Finally, ALWAYS look at the Vertical and Horizontal Space.  I normally use 4 and 5.  If you leave these BLANK then your words will float RIGHT NEXT to the image (and it just looks silly).

You can add a border to the image if you like.

And that my friend is how you add an image to Activerain!

This is a great 101.  I didn't have this, but my friend, Lenn, had me call her and she gave me the baby steps when I was just a young grasshopper!
