Great to make w/Kids!
COMBINE:
1 cup Sugar
2 cups All-Purpose Flour
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp Soda
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Ginger
½ tsp Cloves
CUT IN:
¾ cup Shortening
STIR IN:
¼ cup Molasses
1 Egg (slightly beaten)
Dough will be very stiff. Roll into 1" or less balls (you can roll balls in sugar before baking) and place on ungreased cookie sheet
BAKE at 350 for 10 min
Remove from cookie sheet immediately - will cool & harden quickly
Yields 4 ½ dozen (or more depending on size)
My Mom started using this receipe when it came out in 1979 - she loved to make up a batch while she was cooking dinner and then after dinner let my Dad & my children "roll" the balls while she cleaned up. Then she and the kids would bake! My Dad loved to sit at the table and give advice! My parents have been gone for over 20 years but my 33 year old son, Brett, makes these every year - they are his favorite! I don't know if it is the memory or the cookie!
Make cookies with kids today!!! Fun Times!!!!
