3rd ANNUAL SPORTS NIGHT

CELEBRATING SPORTS IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY

MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2007

GREENWICH HYATT

The largest celebration of sports in Fairfield County is set for Monday, Oct 22 as the 3rd Annual Sports Night gala takes place at the Greenwich Hyatt at 6 pm. The event, presented by the Fairfield County Sports Commission, spotlights the rich history and future of sports in our area.

Designed to unite the Fairfield County sports community, the annual fundraising dinner honors athletes and significant sports figures at all levels.  This high profile event recognizes a "Sportsperson of the Year" in each of the 15 communities the Commission serves, as well as staging the induction ceremonies for the newest members of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame.

Funds raised by the Sports Commission, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization, are committed to developing, implementing and supporting community programs designed to promote and educate children on fitness awareness and leading an active, healthy lifestyle. These initiatives, whether created by the Sports Commission or in conjunction with local youth and educational organizations, are targeted to increase physical activity for the nearly 110,000 school-age youngsters in the communities the Commission oversees.

While supporting a good cause, join the area's biggest gathering of sports celebrities and personalities for an evening filled with fun and nostalgia.  Silent and live auctions, featuring great sports memorabilia, will also be highlights of this special night.  We also will be honoring our Courage Award winner and recognizing a Special Olympics sports person of the year.

We hope you can join us and support this very important event. Tickets for the event are $100 ($125 after Sept. 30). Tables of 10 may be purchased for $1,000. Program book ads range from $1000 for a full page to $100 for a business card/tribute listing.

The six new inductees joining the Hall this year are:

Jackie Robinson Professional Wing - Mike Gminski, Charlie Nagy

James O'Rourke Amateur Wing - Donna Lopiano, Jerry Courville, Sr.

J. Walter Kennedy Community Service Wing - Nick Koules, Bruce Webster

The Fairfield County Sports Commission is an all-volunteer group except for its executive director, and provides a one-stop resource for the entire sports community. Its mission is to promote fitness and personal development through sports.
