The Mississippi River is a Super highway for Louisiana and points North to the rest of the world. New Orleans to Baton Rouge has all sorts of Chemical , Agricultural, Steel, and finished products that are shipped and received to and from the rest of the world. The 54 miles of the Mississippi River from New Orleans ranks as the 9th largest port in the world. Its the largest in the Western Hemisphere and the largest handler of bulk cargo in the entire world.
The photo is the upper end of the port in Baton Rouge. Over 6000 vessels pass through the port of New Orleans during a year. Countless barges pushed buy tugs carry grain, soy beans and other agricultural products from the Midwest to be loaded at the port for export.
