Christmas Caroling at the Nursing Homes

Christmas Caroling at the Nursing Homes was great today!

We spent the afternoon visiting three different nursing homes/assisted living facilities and singing Christmas Carols  At the first home the man we visited used to attend the church we were with and he sang in the choir.  After we finished singing to him he teared up he was so happy to have everyone there with him.  I felt tears in my eyes too!

At the second home the residents gathered together in the living room anxiously waiting to hear the songs.  Some sang along and other just tapped to the music.

At the third home many of the residents sang along and they smiled and thanked us for coming.  It was so special to see them smile!

I can't wait to go Christmas Caroling again next year!

Hi Cynthia,

What a nice thing to do, and three in one day. Good for you for paying it forward!

Merry Christmas.

Some food for thought, many people think about them during this time of the year! The challenge would be to think about them throughout the year. Many times you can work with the activiites director and leave them something throughout the year!

I have found that cards go along way because they leave them on their tables for them to look at often so you get alot of face time plus their visiting family and friends notice them too! You can do birthday cards. I just leave several and contact her every month to make sure she has enough. She puts the name on them and they get a birthday card from me.

Valentine's Day cards, I just use the cheap ones like kids do in school! I also do St. Patricks Day. Easter. Memorial Day. Basically, I try to touch them once a month!

Kudos to you for taking the first step do to it initially!

Pam, that is a great idea!  I have always enjoyed working with the elderly and I would love to do more.  (I was an EMT for many years)  I like the idea about cards.  I also enjoy card making so I could prepare a simply to make card, all pre-cut and ready to go and maybe some of the residents would enjoy making their own card to mail or give to someone.  Merry Christmas!

Thanks Lynda!  Merry Christmas to you too!

These are such wonderful things to do for people who are really in need of families and friends. They get lonely during holiday days and look forward to the caroling.  Love Pam's idea also, something for them to hold on and cherish throughout the year!

Happy Holidays, Ladies!

It's so nice when song and fellowship is brought into the nursing homes for those that are caught captive by a certain time in their life.  It's a blessing on both sides of the event.
