Where to Get Great FREE Pictures and Graphics for your Blog - How to Add Picture to Your Blog
I am always looking for where I can get pictures free! Thank you for your places to go for them. It is fun to add pictures to a blog--in fact, it is suggested that everyone do it to make their blog more interesting!
I am sure there are many blogs about this and have come across them from time to time but still people ask where to find great graphics for their blogs AND website.
There are a variety of places online to get FREE non-copyrighted photos, pictures and graphics.
- Wiki Commons has some great photos and are easy to find and download
- Morgue File has similar ones but I can never seem to find exactly what I want
- Stock.Exchange also has a lot but some you must pay for (usually the good ones) and others are free but you still have to become a member.
My favorite hands down has to be Microsoft Publisher. You know, that program on your computer that comes with Office. Maybe you have used it to make fliers before? Use it for the clip art in your blogs. It's free and can be dispersed. There are thousands of graphics and easy to find. The simplest way to do this is to open Microsoft Publisher and start a blank project. Then click the graphic addition and find what you want in the clip art. This can be done without opening publisher but you can't filter through the photos by what you are looking for and it's much more difficult.
Once you have found your graphic and it's on your Publisher page, Right Click and save image as... Yes, it's already on your computer but you will need to save it somewhere you can find it quick and under a name you recognize. I save it to My Pictures file under My Documents under the easiest title so I can find it. Then Back to the Blog -
I add in a picture by clicking the icon of a tree on the top line of your blog and click to find it. I then title it and add in a description. I also make it part of the text by clicking the "appearance" tab" on top of the image box and set it to the right or left of the text and type in either an 8 or 9 in the horizontal and vertical space boxes. This is so the text does not butt right up against the picture.
If there is an error in uploading the picture, it's too big. Open in your picture editor such as Microsoft Office Picture Manager and edit the picture, then re-size. I simply cut the picture by half size and it usually works. Then save it again and re-upload it.
Once you have put it in the blog you may notice it's still too big for the size. Simply click on it until the white boxes are outlining the picture and drag it bigger or smaller to look visually appealing.
I hope this has helped and made adding picture to your blog easier.
