Pay It Forward - Clarkstown Coats for Kids

This past Tuesday I woke up to a dusting of snow.   The temperatures were way below freezing which made it very tempting to work from home but since Tuesday is Rockland County, NY's day for broker open-houses, I joined a fellow agent and we braved the weather to head out to tour some properties.

a new season is coming

She offered to do the driving as long as I was willing to detour and make a stop at a local dry cleaning store, Fine Line Cleaners, on S. Main Street in New City, to drop off some coats for donation to Rockland County's needy.

Of coarse I agreed!  What a no-brainer!  I had enough advance notice to quickly clean out my coat closet and add some coats to her donation pile.

The Kcira family of Fine Line Cleaners on S. Main Street in New City is part of  the "Clarkstown Coats for Kids Program".  Local dry cleaning businesses that participate in the program collect donations of used coats; they clean them and then deliver them to any of several local organizations that assist families in need, helping to keep them warm through the winter.

This is the 21st year that the Town of Clarkstown, in conjunction with local businesses is coordinating the Coats for Kids Program.  The Kcira family has been part of this program for the past nine years.  It is their way of giving back to the community and helping others.

Tuesday was our first truly frigid day in Rockland County, NY this season and I was so thankful that I have several warm coats to choose from to keep me warm.  But, I know there are so many less fortunate, especially in these economic times, that can't say the same.   So...Tuesday's detour turned out to be a blessing in disguise - It forced me to clean out my closet and I got rewarded for my efforts with the opportunity to Pay It Forward and contribute to a great cause -"Clarkstown Coats for Kids".

Leah,

We have  a similar program in our area where coats and clothes are given to both youngsters and oldsters... they just have to show up on a certain day at the location and take what they need...   sometimes things work right!
