Are you worried about Frozen Pipes this winter? Frozen Pipes that eventually burst from the freeze/thaw process can cause a number of problems from water damaged walls, ceilings and floors, and typically involve costly plumbing repairs.
Here are a few suggestions that may help you avoid a messy pipe burst.
1. Locate all water pipes that are susceptible to freezing. Wrap them in pipe insulation that you can purchase from your local building supply store.
2. If you plan to be away from home for a period of time...have someone check your home to make sure the heat stays set on at least 55 degrees in your absence.
3. If you own a vacant house consider turning off the water supply to the home and having a plumber winterize the home. If you are planing to lease or sell the home you may want to leave the heat on for the pipes as well as so prospective buyers or tenants can be comfortable when viewing the home. A comfortable buyer or tenant always has a better chance of going to contract than one that wants to rush back to the car to get warm after being in that "cold house"!
4. Locate the Main Cut-Off for your water supply so in case of an emergency you can act fast.
5. Drain your A/C water supply lines and if your unit has a water cut-off valve turn it off for the winter.
A Pipe Burst can be a very messy problem and one to make every effort to avoid. Hopefully these easy steps here can help you avoid this type of potential disaster. So if your concerned about dealing with Frozen Pipes this winter, their is no time like the present to take action.
