If your primary goal for your personalized website to establish your creditability with clients, you don't need to do much more than making sure you are presented professionally.  It is likely the only people visiting your site are those who you contact and leave your business card with.

However, if you want to use your website to drive traffic and leads your way then the cookie cutting approach is not designed to accomplish this.

After years of developing real estate websites for myself, new developments and agents, I know firsthand the effort and knowledge it takes to make a real estate website successful. One needs to remember the top use of a site visitor is to search for property.  If your website does not accomplish this you are not satisfying the number one need of consumers. 

The next critical function is to make sure the search engines can find you!  This requires a lot of knowledge, technical expertise and writing skills.

My website is basically a resume.  It's a way for people to find out more about me based on what I write (my blog is linked to it).  Otherwise, I don't see it as the best tool for clients to search for homes.  They can get better information from Trulia or Realtor.com.  As long as my site is up to date and reflects what I'm working on, it's doing exactly what it needs to.

Thanks for your comment.  I see you fall into the category of those using your website to provide information about you and your services (Creditability).  While I agree that cleints can use a host to home search tools, some of the basic principles of a good website design are:

1.  Elinimate the need for a client to leave your site to get information they seek.  Content is king.

2.  One also gains the benefit of knowing who the potential buyer is and the property type and price rnge and location of homes they are looking for.  If a client is searching for homes on other website like Yahoo, Trulia, Realtors.com and other you loose the ability to gather important information which can be used to be better informed about a potential clients needs.
