Hurry Up! It's the End of the Year!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Crossroads

Being of a certain age, I have learned that we can all move much faster when it is required of us.  This, too, can be applied to negotiators of short sales it seems.  I pride myself on putting forth the same amount of effort on your listing, be it priced at a bargain basement $30,0000.00 or higher than average $300,000.00.  You are my client and I, to a fault at times, will move heaven and earth to bring your deal to a successful close.

However, as I speak with (and I mean SPEAK, as in they answered their phone) yet another negotiator, I wonder why they are available yesterday and today, but not last month, not last week.  I believe that as the year comes to a close, it's time to "get it off the books" and everyone is in that "time to clean house" state of mind.  I appreciate this fortunate turn as three of my short sales seem destined to close within the next week, however, I can't help but think of those that should have, and didn't.

Today, a homeowner needs this short sale to come to fruition for the same reason they did yesterday... their life is on hold, and they need to move on.  They do not look at the calendar page and change how they approach life--they can't.  Somehow, though, the negotiators seem to do just that.

So, if you are one of the homeowners lucky enough to have a deal on the table at the end of the year, I am happy for you.  Thankfully, you will close out 2010 as an unfortunate chapter in  your life and look toward 2011 with renewed hope to rebuild your future.  If you are instead a homeowner who has spent your year waiting, hoping, and being discouraged by lenders unwilling to negotiate, buyers unwilling to wait, I apologize...not for myself,  I gave you my level best...but on behalf of an industry rooted in the bottom-line, unwilling to look beyond it.
