There are just those days....when ever person has passed his point of no return. This just happened to be one of those days when the energy and stamina ran out. Even the inertial was gone...it was time for a break.
The whole family was tired and while I still had plenty of driving to do, the wife convinced me to stop and grab some food, chow, go-juice, calories, just nutrition, no-one cared where, just stop.
Suddenly ahead there was an open place....a "sport-bar-pub-restaurant" brightly lit and inviting so we pulled in and parked.
The whole family of five got out, stretched and limped on in......butts weary of the warm car leather to cold eatery vinyl transition, but too hungry and tired to care.
Soon drinks were served, anything with caffeine was a welcome thought, and the as my little family crowded around this table, just glad to be in a non-moving box for a minute or two, I watched as my children dozed off in order of age.
First to go was the youngest, barely awake on her feet as we walked in....she propped he head on the chair and slumped down low....gone! POOF!
Next my middle one leaned into me....I thought she was resting until she answered the waitress with a solid but light snore....to which my son chuckled and ordered his food, just before putting his head on the table.
Ladies and Gentlemen, my wife and I dream of these alone moments, but not in the middle of a restaurant miles and miles from home.....The Gods must be Crazy!
The Naps were short, the food was brought and just prior to waking the little guys up....my wife had the forethought to snap a pic or two......pics that we will always be able to have and to cherish long after the kids are in college or living their own lives.
And as I sit here and write and reflect on the weariness of the evening, the exhaustion that overtook us, I look at this picture and cant help but think....I cannot wait to have the kids tire me out like that again....what a WONDERFUL DAY!
Thank-You God for returning me safely time and time again to my family and thank-you guys for allowing such a weary old soldier to be the father of three of the coolest and best kids around. (And Thank-you too Honey, for keeping me around, gotta mention I love you!!!!!!!)
