My sisters live over 2,000 miles away and it is a rare occasion when we are together without kids, grandchildren and other members of our families. Between the three of us we have eleven children and twenty-two grandchildren! In 2002 we enjoyed a girls only trip to Catalina Island for the day.
We started the day with a boat ride on Catalina Express and enjoyed the one hour trip from Los Angeles Harbor to Catalina Island. It is a wonderful experience to re-connect with geographically distant siblings. After a late and leisurely breakfast we strolled the streets and meandered in and out of most of the shops on the island. The day flew by, but the moment was captured thanks to the kindness of a complete stranger.
We bought hats (our mother always made us wear one in the sun) and by mid-afternoon we decided to indulge in ice cream cones--a weakness for ice cream runs in the family. A passerby asked to capture the moment for us--three sisters sitting in the sun licking ice cream cones just like we did when we were kids.
