Do You Think Santa Uses GPS?

Mapquest logoDo you think Santa uses GPS?  I mean, since Santa delivers more toys in a single night than Fed Ex, DHS, the Post Office AND UPS combined, what is the probability that he has gotten lost along the way a time or two?  I can get lost going to a new part of town, so...  Now, GPS systems can be expensive, depending on the model and extent of coverage.  Santa doesn't have a paying gig and the elves aren't necessarily IT guys.  But, if Santa has a laptop or even a Smart Phone, he could use the next best thing...MapQuest...for FREE.

If you have an iPhone or BlackBerry, you can download a mobile MapQuest app that gives you access to all the map features available through the regular online version with a little bit more for the "on-the-go" type.  In addition to directions, the Mobile MapQuest app gives you access to locations of:

  • Airports
  • Banks
  • Bars
  • MapQuest's Santa SpeakCar Rental Offices
  • Car Repair Shops
  • Coffee Shops
  • Gas Stations
  • Grocery Stores
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Ice Cream Parlors
  • Lube and Oil Shops
  • Movie Theaters
  • Parking Garages
  • Pharmacies
  • Pizzerias
  • Post Offices
  • Rest Areas
  • Schools
  • Shopping Centers
  • Restaurants
  • Traffic
  • And much, much more

How can this help you as a REALTOR®? How about posting a link to the location of each listing's MapQuest page?  That way, anyone interested in looking at a home up close and personal can get directions right to the listing no matter where they are.  You can also add this link in your QR code on your website and online listings.  With the mobile MapQuest app, clients can get directions to any of your listings right at their fingertips.  Send these directions via text or email so you can meet your buyers at a home you know would be perfect for them!

For a short time, MapQuest is offering directions in "Santa Speak".  You can access this at the top of the language drop down menu located to the right of the Featured Sites tab.  When you type in your starting position and ending address, MapQuest will give you a "suggested sleigh route" so you can feel just like Santa going out on his appointed rounds.  Unfortunately, this isn't available on the mobile app.  But, it can still be fun to have a sleigh route of your very own when running around from appointment to appointment.

Additionally, NORAD is again tracking Santa's exploits on Christmas Eve through the Google Maps' Santa Tracker Visit and bookmark their site so you and the kids can keep track of when Santa will be visiting your house.

Do you think Santa uses GPS?  It would make sense that he would.  Now, MapQuest gives you a free GPS tool that can offer an easy way for clients to get directions to any of your real estate listings, too.  Above all else, happy holidays!

Hi Pamela, I'm pretty sure that Santa has done his route so many times that he doesn't need a GPS to find all the children who have been nice this year. I've always wondered how he manages to slide down so many chimneys without getting filthy dirty though.

Hi Malcolm - LOL. I always wondered how got into the houses without chimneys.  My granddaughter set me straight - Santa is magic!

Pamela--I stopped at your site hoping to find your recipe for ham & beans and maybe the polenta bread.

Norad's Santa Tracker was a hit with parents of young kids.  As a kid I agreed with your granddaughter.

We celebrated a granddaughter's birthday last night.  At ten she ran rings around the adults with her knowledge of technology.

See you in 2011.

Hi Mary - You won't find a recipe for ham and bean.  I just put a meaty ham bone, beans, water and seasonings in a pan and boil until done.  Since you were looking for the Polenta Bread, I added the recipe to Bon Appetit for you.  Hope you enjoy it.

I just love Norad's Santa Tracker.  Our grandkids get such a kick out of it.

My 7-year-old granddaughter astounds me with her tech knowledge.  It's what kids these days absolutely need in order to succeed.
