Historic Homes of Denver: Wine & Food Series - Bonefish Grill

Bonefish GrillThis afternoon I had lunch at the Bonefish Grill.  Normally I do not make a habit of visiting chain restaurants, but, I think that I will make an exception for the Bonefish Grill.  First of all, I like the fact that Bonefish Grill puts an emphasis on supporting fishing regulations that promote the sustainability of fish species.  I have been a SCUBA diver for over 30 years, and while I enjoy eating fish, I detest the decline of natural habitat in our oceans which I have personally witnessed.  I like that the Bonefish Grill recognizes the importance of this issue and opporates in a fashion that respects that.

Secondly, when I order a specific type of fish, I WANT that fish, not a stand-in.  Bonefish Grill has instituted a program that authenticates fish species through random DNA testing on their suppliers.
                                                                                                                                                     Sea Turtle
My next horrah for Bonefish Grill is their affiliation with Ocean Trust.  A conservation foundation that works towards sustainability of our oceans.  Bonefish Grill has raised funds through special fund raising efforts and have donated those funds to campaigns such as saving endangered species of Sea Turtles.

Many years ago, my father and I went with our dive club for a weekend dive trip to an uninhabited island in the Persian Gulf (this was long before Gulf One).  We were taken out to this island by native fisherman who stayed with us the entire time.  The first evening we were on the island, my father and I hid quietly by the edge of the water and observed mammoth sea turtles lumber onto the beach and lay their eggs.  I was immediately hooked and in love with these gentle creatures.  That night, one of the fisherman that took us out to the island caught one of the female turtles.  I begged and pleaded with him to let her go.  But he refused and she ended up in a soup the next day.  Needless to say, I have been passionate about sea turtles ever since that moment.  The fact that Bonefish Grill assists us all in saving these creatures earns my allegiance to them.

Bang Bang ShrimpNow on to the food at the Bonefish Grill.  I absolutely loved the Bang Bang Shrimp.  Yes, I know, it's a strange name, but it is fabulous!  This appetizer starts with shrimp is approximately a 20 count size and is cooked quickly (probably fried)and is slightly crispy.  Then the chefs at Bonefish Grill dress it in a slightly spicy and creamy mayonnaise sauce that reminds me somewhat of the sauce that you get at sushi restaurants when you order a Dynamite Dish.  Delicious and worthy of a trip to Bonefish Grill just for this one plate!
                                                                                                        Lily's Chicken
For lunch, I had Lily's Chicken.  A grilled chicken breast covered with soft goat cheese, sautéed spinach and artichoke hearts and finished with a lemon basil sauce.  Yum!

I visited the Bonefish Grill on South Yosemite Street:

That is some interesting info. Frankly, I haven't tried the restaurant because I hate the name. Bone and Fish - unappetizing IMO. But maybe I'll have to look past the name and give it a shot.

I am a little concerned with the name. I do not want any bones in my fish...but it sounds like a great place.

Joetta, I kind of agree with you.  If I hadn't had a reason to go, I probably wouldn't have but I was pleasantly surprised.  Then after my research and finding out about their "green" status, I liked it even better.

Agreed Jeff, I think the name is slightly off putting, but, no bones in my fish.  The Bang Bang Shrimp also has an odd name but it was delicious!
