Every summer my family slips away for a week of Heaven in Lake Tahoe. It’s our family time; no school, no sporting events or homework, just the family and our yellow lab named Sadie.
One of our favorite spots on the Lake is off the beaten path enough that we usually have it all to ourselves, even at the height of summer. Getting there involves a trek down a sometimes steep dirt path with loose footing. This deters most people who even see the trail. And the thought of the steep hike back out, at 6,000 foot elevation certainly scares off the aerobically challenged.
This was one of those days we had the beach all to ourselves. The sun was bright and warm, sometimes disappearing behind the fluffy white clouds. The water was cold as always, refreshing as always, and rejuvenating to the soul.
One of the fun parts of this smooth-sand beach is the boulders that are submerged just below the surface of the Lake. You can take a little swim from one gigantic boulder to the next. Part of the beauty of Tahoe is the clarity of the water. The view below you as you swim is amazing. Swimming from boulder to boulder, stopping to lay on the sun-drenched rocks above the surface to absorb their warmth, what a way to spend a day.
On this day, at this very moment, as her brother looks on, my daughter is embraced by the spirit, enwrapped in Mother Natures wonder, smiling to the heavens. Truly a Kodak Moment!
