What's "The New Normal" For Realtors in 2011

What changes must a Fort Worth Realtor make to meet the challenges of 2011?

I ask myself that question constantly and for the last year I have put my heart and soul into building a real estate business for the future.  Reata Realty's goal is to bring value to the home buying process by providing an unrivaled view of the marketplace through an insightfully integrated, stunningly visual and informative community and property detail.  This is what I believe the "New Normal" is.

The "New Normal" is all about the consumer and the consumers behavior.  The consumer is really informed and they have access to virtually the same information as the average Realtor.  In some cases they know more about properties than the Realtor.  Today's consumer is very demanding, they are abnormally sensitive to prices and all costs of a transaction.  This is good news because an experienced Realtor is capable of meeting those demands.  An informed consumer will see the value of a good Realtor.

Today's Realtors have to be experts at gathering information and data but more importantly they need to know how to analyze it.  Data it just that until the analytics are provided.  Realtors must be responsive.  We live in an immediate society.  Gone are the days of returning a call two or three days later, or waiting until tomorrow to answer that email.  Consumers today demand immediate response or they will move on.  Interestingly about this...the BBC did a study a while back.  They concluded that today's internet consumer has the attention span of a about 9 seconds, which is about the same as a goldfish.  Also, you are 20 times more likely to retain an online lead if they are called back within 5 minutes rather than after 20 minutes.

I believe education plays a huge role in a Realtors success  and at Reata Realty we provide that.  Real estate , self improvement, communication and technology are  areas we focus on.  Of these, communication is number one and is 80% of the success equation.  The best communicator always wins.  The combination of strong communication skills, technology skills, and real estate knowledge brings a unbeatable value to the market.

Donnie,  You are so right.  The customers are wanting more these days.  I feel in my line of business as a mortgage professional, that I am applying for a job (loan) with each new customer that calls me. Some of my peers feel the same way and don't like it but I have to say it makes me stay on my toes and makes me push myself more on delevering awesome service to each client.  It's not a easy job but it's so rewarding to see a first time home buyer get keys to their new home knowing I played a small role in the transaction.  Good luck to you in 2011.
