Why I Like My New Small Sensor Camera Part 1

By
Real Estate Agent with Fathom Realty

I have a new camera, Panasonic DMC FZ 100) for xmas but couldn't wait to open it.  It is an upgrade to my FZ 18 but has a new CMOS sensor.  The main thing this sensor does over a CCD type is that it allows for auto focusing during burst modes.  The camera can take 11 FPS at a 14 mpeg size.  Quite a feat.  The other big item especially for me is that now I can mount an aux flash on the camera.  This is important because my add on wide angle lens interfered with the camera flash and left a big shadow.  I am not sure it takes any better pictures then my FZ 18 but I will find out.  It also has a 25 mm lens that goes out to 600 mm.  Here are a few pictures taken with the camera.

Keep in mind these were taken without changing the lens on the camera.  My big thing with the camera is that if you can't see it you can't take a picture of it. The shot of the lady with the dogs was taken across the lake un the first picture.  The Honey Bee Golf Course in Virginia Beach is even pretty in the snow.

Gene, wow!  I like them all, but the one with the bridge and it's reflection is just wonderful.

One of the reasons I like my small sensor camera is because of the fact that the camera itself is... small.  Don't get me wrong, I love my DSLR and lens, but I don't want to lug all that gear around everytime we go out.  Having a compact camera that is easy enough for anyone in my family to use means that we can always have a camera around no matter what the event.  Some of my favorite photos where taken with my Canon P&S.

Listing photos, now that's another story...

I agree that a small camera is more convenient.  However, you can't beat the quality of a shot you get with a good SLR with a good lens.  In my mind the detail is well worth the inconvenience

My wife wanted me to take a picture of our Koi pond so that she could e-mail it to frends the other day.  The IPhone camera is about as convenient as they come, but the lighting was bad at the time and all I got was contrast.  When I used my 5D Mark II I had no problems.

It is nice to be able to increase your WOW factor and the right tool certainly helps.

Gene,

I really like the quality of the pictures and the size of the camera does matter. There are times when you don't want to lug all that stuff around with you. You can do that now and still get great results! This is great information! Thank you.

Nice shot and great pictures. I shot with my old Canon 20D and I always enjoy taking photos. How much was the camera?

I love my 5d but sometimes sound like a door closing when you take a photo. The shutter is noisy. My t1i is better. But my old lumix is the best, know one hears it. Sometimes not being heard is what you need. Plus having it fit in my pocket is sure nice too.

Gene - It's amazing what today's technology brings !  I picked up a mini pen camera -- an E-mp1 olympus.

I use it for pole photography because it's light. I swear sometimes because it out performs my old campanion

40D .  For $500 bucks! Whats the world coming to.  LOL
