Top 10 Myths about Home Staging

10         Most buyers can see beyond the home's décor without staging.

9           Home stagers are in competition with realtors.

8           After staging your home you should raise the list price.

7          Some homes are just too small or old to stage.

6           Home staging just means removing the clutter.

5          Homeowners can just stage their homes themselves.

4          Suggesting a home stager insults the homeowner by implying they have bad taste.

3          Home Staging is a fad and probably won't be around this time next year.

2.          Home stagers can transform any property for under $2000.

1.         All you have to do to stage your home is bake cookies before an open house. (my favorite)

The facts about home staging are that home stagers are part of the Real Estate team.  They are trained professionals that work with the realtor and homeowner to accomplish a faster more profitable sale.  Regardless of price or location, all homes can benefit from professional home staging. Studies have shown that on average professionally staged homes sell 50% faster, and for up to 10% more.  Consider the cost of staging versus the lost revenue of a price reduction.  Home Staging is one of the few relationships that is truly WIN WIN WIN.

Instead of just listing the top ten myths maybe you could explain why they're merely myths.

For example, why does staging go beyond "removing the clutter"???

Gee I've never heard:

9. Home stagers are in competition with realtors.

Never heard it, Would never think it.  Why would home stagers be in competition with REALTOR®?

Do you mean competing with the REALTORS® or real estate agents who have a staging designation, as far as staging...

# 9  I guess what I meant is that here in NY home staging is a pretty unknown term and there are a few realtor / home stagers.  I've had homeowners that are not exactly sure how home staging fits into the real estate process. Some have said "I'm already working with a realtor can I still use your service?" or "Can you list my house after you stage it?"  The point I was trying to get across is that Professional Home Stagers are not real estate agents.

It seems like I might have to go through the myth's one by one.  What do you think?

That would be a great idea. You can skip the cookies myth; although I like cookies.

This is WHY Active Rain blogging is a GREAT resource.

The comments here should help you "CRAFT" your message so that you say it with pin-point accuracy.

But I do like the starting point... for sure. I totaly got what you want to say. BUT I am a "convert". This is a perfect example where you need to consider your audience and speak into THEIR listening.
